IDX System Technology X10-Lite-S overview

  • 1Description

The IDX X10-Lite-S Hi-Performance LED On-Camera Light mounts to a standard accessory shoe on your camera, and provides a powerful beam that can be dimmed from 100 to 0% without affecting the beam quality. The LEDs in the unit are rated to last up to 50,000 hours, and the unit powers from available Sony NP-F970 type batteries (not included). You can also power the unit from a 6 to 17 volt DC source using the included D-Tap connector.

A sealed, scratch resistant lens protects the LEDs, and they deliver 1450 lux at 1m, with a 90° beam spread. This allows you to light a relatively large area from an on-camera light. For a tighter beam, you can flip up the bottom barndoor, which will adjust the beam spread to 45°, giving you more control, and less spill. The LEDs produce light with a color temperature of 4500K, which is roughly halfway between daylight and tungsten values. The barndoors incorporate a color correction filter that you can fold in front of the light to convert the color temperature from 4500K to 3200K.

The X10-Lite-S is an on-camera light that features dimming from 100 to 0%, without affecting the quality of the beam.
The standard beam angle is 90°, however, by flipping up the bottom barndoor in front of the light, you convert the beam angle to 45° for a more spotty beam.
The light has a color temperature of 4500K, which puts it approximately halfway between daylight and tungsten. Using this light with daylight (5600K) balanced units will result in the light causing a slight warming on the subjects you illuminate it with, when the camera is set to daylight balanced.
The barndoors feature a color correction filter, that you can flip down to cover the LEDs, and this will convert the lights output from 4500K to 3200K, so you can mix it with traditional tungsten lighting with color temperature issues.

    IDX System Technology X10-Lite-S reviews

    X10-Lite-S Hi-Performance LED On-Camera Light is rated 2.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from design flaw Have a few of these across our fleet, they are coming in broken at the cold shoe. The aluminum cold shoe mount is held to the plastic base by two tiny steel metric machine screws, unfortunately they are too short and they pull the threads out of the aluminum. The incorrect screw length and lack of helicoil inserts in the aluminum make this product flawed at the design level. The height of the light means it's very easy to put a lot of force on this tiny part, failure is a matter of when, not if. Might be OK for light duty work, but you'll be disappointed if you use in a sports/news environment.
