  • 1Description

The Mackie DL1608 16-Channel Digital Live Sound Mixer with Lightning Connector allows the entire process of live-sound mixing to be controlled by an iPad. The DL1608 features 16 Onyx microphone preamps, 24-bit A/D & D/A converters, powerful internal DSP processing and an iPad docking faceplate. Integrate your Lightning Apple iPad and complete the setup for a live sound mixing experience that takes advantage of the iPad's touchscreen capabilities and wireless control.

Use Mackie's Master Fader app to mix live audio and access the DL1608's internal processing, including 4-band EQ, compression, gate, delay, reverb and 31-band graphic EQ. Add a wireless router (not included) and mix with your iPad remotely, at various locations of a venue, hall, etc. The DL1608 takes full advantage of the iPad's flexibility, and features like Channel Images allow you to take pictures of band members and use the images as channel markers for easy referencing.

Conrol the Mix From Anywhere
With the Mackie DL1608's seamless wired to wireless mixing capabilities, you can mix in real time from anywhere in the venue on your iPad (requires wireless router, sold separately). Instantly adjust mix functions from tuning front of house trouble spots to ringing out stage monitors.
16 Onyx Preamps
The Mackie DL1608 comes loaded with 16 studio-quality Onyx mic preamps that deliver depth, headroom and immense detail to your live mix. Plus, with 12 XLR and four combo mic/line inputs, connecting mics and instruments is quick and easy.
24-Bit Cirrus Logic AD/DA Converters
The Mackie DL1608's high-end 24bit Cirrus Logic AD/DA converters offer a remarkable 114 dB dynamic range. We align our Onyx pre-amps precisely with the converters to provide you with the most headroom and the lowest noise and distortion possible-resulting in brilliant sound quality from a vocal whisper to a wailing guitar solo.
Built-In Processing (DSP)
The DL1608 is loaded with a choice of powerful plug-ins on every channel, so you won't need to set up additional racks of outboard gear. With just the touch of a finger, you have total control over 4-band EQ, compression and gate plug-ins. Plus, sweeten your sound with a full-featured reverb and tap delay or adjust your mix to the room with the 31-band graphic EQ and compressor/limiter on the main and aux outs.
Multiple iPad Support
Supporting up to 10 iPads simultaneously, the Mackie DL1608 allows multiple engineers to control the mix. Plus, it gives band members the ability to adjust their own monitors. Now, the band can dial in the mix they want to hear in real time right on stage.
Snapshot Recall
The Mackie DL1608 allows you to recall mix functions with just the touch of a finger. With Total Snapshot Recall*, you can now easily save and access sound check settings for multiple bands, complex song mixes, previous mixes from challenging venues, recall scenes for theater productions and more. You can even pre-set the mixing board and be ready to go the moment you arrive. *Mic pre-amp gains are not recallable.
Channel Presets
Quickly set up a new mix with the DL1608's Channel Presets. With simple touchscreen control, you can immediately assign a factory or your own custom channel preset for kick drum, bass, guitar, keyboard and more to any channel you choose. And when you've made the perfect settings, easily save them for later use and share them with your friends.

    Mackie DL1608 reviews

DL1608 iPad-Controlled 16-Channel Digital Live Sound Mixer with Lightning Connector is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mostly great, with a few complaints We use this board to handle our tech needs in a medium sized church. The board is in an upstairs windowed room that we hardly ever enter. Being able to mix from anywhere is incredibly powerful, especially for our situation. Setup: - We use 15 of the 16 channels, so we're cutting it close - We use all 6 aux sends: 4 monitors, 1 wireless foyer speaker, and 1 for recording the sermon (since the iPad will never be plugged into the board for our situation). Pros: - I don't have to be inside of the tech booth to mix - I can go behind the band during rehearsal and adjust their monitors while actually hearing them - Settings can be saved and recalled form week to week - No need for separate compressor or EQ hardware - Sound is great Cons: - Lacking physical nobs means your eyes have to be on the iPad screen while mixing - The app has frozen on me once so far inexplicably. It was resolved easily by re-launching the app, but these precious few seconds can be bad news depending on the timing I would definitely recommend the DL1608, but make sure you count the cost on a few potential drawbacks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So Far, Really Impressed I am a working pro acoustic musician and long time Mackie fan owning currently a CFX 12,16,and 20 as well as a 24 VLZ and a pro FX 8. That said I was a hard sell going to this format.Being a long time iPad owner and DAW user really knocked the learning curve down and I was lucky that one of my accounts installed one (1608) as a house system and so I downloaded masterfader to learn it. Decided to buy and wow the advantages are huge. snapshot, channel presets and record are great features however I would like to see the recordings in multitrack wav. files so you could just open in Logic or whatever DAW you use. I also bought an apple router because as you I people know, the stuff just works together. No worries!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The DL1608 is a great product! I am very glad I purchased the DL1608. I utilize the DL1608 in two different bands. One is a classic rock cover band where we mic everything (needing all 16 channels) and the other band plays more easy listening music for wineries. Most of the venues we play do not require a sound man. The DL1608 is very easy to use and much lighter (easy to carry and set up) than conventional 16 channel boards. The hardware is robust and reliable like many of the other Mackie products I have used in the past. The ability to use either the IPad or my IPhone wirelessly to control the sound is the best feature. The Mackie's Master Fader (version 2.1.1) contains many great features and is extremely easy to use.To date I have had no issues with the reliability of the software. There are some improvements I would like to see. They are:a) Record Function: You can record with the touch of a button (two master tracks). The problem is that once you record something you cannot play it back without docking your IPad to a computer. It is kind of silly to have the recording on the IPad and have to dock the IPad to be able to listen to it. I purchased the DL1608 so I would not have to bring a laptop to the gig as you would with other digital mixers. I would really like to hear the recording in real time on the IPad to know it was recorded properly. The recorded volume generally comes out very low. It would be nice to be able to directly adjust the recorded volume without have to readjust the entire mix. Also why record just the master tracks. You should be able record each individual track.b) It would be nice to have the software indicate frequency of any feedback - that way you could easily isolate the offending frequency and eliminate it with the graphic equalizer on the main outputs or monitor mixes.Overall I rate the hardware as a 5. I really am impressed with the software overall but having dock the IPad to listen to the recording drops the over all score down a notch.Hopefully Mackie will correct this in future releases of their software.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a true digital mixer (no multitrack recording) As a user prepare to be disappointed and to B&H Staff this mixer is really incorrectly categorized. This mixer is simply an analogue mixer with an ipad interface. The hallmark features of a digital mixer are all missing. There is no multi channel output or recording ability. No ability to output audio to any audio networking formats. Whatever is digital about this mixer happens only inside the box. The iPad is only a remote control for a device that is identical in function to an analogue mixer with only a single stereo usb output. In short this is a Mackie ProFX16 with a remote control. My suggestion is either don't fool yourself, save your money and get an analogue recording mixer, or spend a few hundred more for a true digital mixer. The Mackie user community resoundingly agrees that this mixer is of limited value and resides in a disappointing limbo, half a step between analogue and digital. Over priced for the one category / and sorely lacking for the other.
