Tonelux MX2D Overview

The MX2D from Tonelux is a mono input line mixer with a transformer-coupled, balanced output for use in the optional VRack system enclosure. The MX2D features a level control, pan control, and four auxiliary sends. The level control knob has the ability to insert an external fader from the rear panel to be used with a passive external fader or the Tonelux Shadowmix automation system. The pan control features a standard stereo pan circuit with a center detent, while the aux sends offer dual concentric knobs that are switchable between pre- and post-fader signals per pair.

The MX2D uses a proprietary all-discrete TX-240 op amp and a TX-260 output stage transformer. The output of the VRack has a nominal level of -2 dBu, while the direct output transformer feeds the direct output at a nominal level of 4 dBu. The dedicated mute circuit turns the LED red when engaged, but when the module is on, the LED serves as a level presence indicator, illuminating green to show signal presence. A selector jumper on the PCB board allows for choosing between the input (factory standard) and the output for the level LED. This is very useful in live recording when you need to know quickly if a channel has signal, or which has the loudest signal on it.

The insert button acts as a balanced insert for outboard gear, or can be used as a "mic pre/tape playback" switch for live recordings or post-recording playback without re-patching the signal. The "ST" button engages the stereo bus. When bypassed, the signal can be sent through the aux sends without going to the main stereo bus. The solo button is both after-fader listen (AFL) and pre-fader listen (PFL), allowing both functions to be selected globally in the control room section (CRS). The polarity switch offers a standard phase flip for the main signal path. The MX2D is made in the USA.
