Sirui SUN1205X overview

  • 1Description

The N-1205X Carbon Fiber Tripod from Sirui is an ideal tripod for anyone who needs to pack light and reserve the option to, at a moment's notice, slim down their camera's support system to just a monopod. The N-1205X features a leg that unscrews and attaches to a second included mounting plate to form a monopod. It also features a split center column for a fast and easy transition to low-angle shooting.

The tripod is a versatile support, able to hold 22 lb of gear while reaching a maximum height of 60.6", and a minimum height of only 5.7". The legs fold upward 180° to achieve a relatively compact folded length of 15.7", even with select head models attached. The entire package stays very compact to fit comfortably in most carry-on bags and many backpacks. A custom carrying case with padded handle is included.

The tripod's center column is reversible, and it splits in two, to convert to a short center column so that you can set up extremely close to the ground for ultra-low-angle shooting. With the center column split and the long section removed, you can set the legs at their widest angle (80°) and shoot from only 5.7" off the ground.

Easily converts into a monopod.
A split center column allows for quick and easy transition to low-angle shooting.
Carbon fiber construction offers a lightweight yet very sturdy build. It also does not react adversely to cold temperatures.
3mm diameter difference between each leg section for greater overall stability.
Silicone twist locks for leg stages and anti-leg rotation system for faster, one-handed set-up.
Automatic leg-angle lock mechanism for speed and convenience. Independently lock legs into place at three different angles: 23°, 52° & 80°.
Short center column allows the tripod to reach extremely low positions – minimum height of 5.7".
An additional mounting plate attaches to the unscrewed monopod leg to mount a camera. A wrist strap is included for added security.
Leg foam grips facilitate handling in extreme weather conditions.
Center column hook allows you to add a ballast for a sturdier setup.
Reversible 1/4"-20 & 3/8"-16 screw on mounting plate enables the attachment of many cameras, or heads.
Padded travel bag with sturdy shoulder strap for carrying is included.

    Sirui SUN1205X reviews

N-1205X Carbon Fiber Tripod is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolute Best Travel Tripod I have literally spent weeks looking for a travel tripod that was able to fit into my Pelican Air Case and at a folded length of 15.7" nothing even comes close that incorporates a removable leg for a monopod as well as a weight limit of 22lbs. Trying to find a good tripod with the requirements needed for travel requires a lot of tradeoffs but I can tell you that this Tripod gives you the stability of the larger models and the compactness needed to travel bar none. My first travel tripod was the Manfrotto Be Free which is named accordingly because you will want to BE FREE of it after dealing with its flimsy legs and low weight limit. I know that Gitzo and RRS have tripods that would match this tripod on specs but this is amazingly built and at a much lower cost. I use a Manfrotto MHXPRO-2W head and it works well on this tripod. Trust me, of the travel tripods I have tried this one won’t disappoint!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid, versatile and light! I bought this tripod to hold my Canon Rebel + Tamron 150-600 telephoto lens, replacing an older aluminum tripod that had served me well otherwise, but could not properly hold the weight of the longer lens. I'm really happy with this new tripod. It is very easy to adjust, and the twist locks feel very solid (the main problem with my old tripod, on which the twist locks keep slipping under the weight of the heavy lens). It is also very light, and I'm looking forward to trying the monopod option too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect I just purchased this and have only been able to use it twice in the field..... what a joy compared to my old Gitzo. Don,t get me wrong, then Gitzo is a good tripod but considering it is 30 years old very heavy and short I did need to replace it with something that fits what I need today. This seems to be a perfect match for what I needed, and for a reasonable amount of money, not cheap but reasonable. I was on a photo workshop photographing the NYC skyline at night, I found setup was quick and easy thanks to the non rotating leg sections, the little click on the locking ring for each leg section let's you know it is locked or released. I also really liked the hook on the bottom of the center column, I hung my backpack on it, some of my exposures were 30-60 sec, looking at the pictures there is no evidence of shake and it was a bit breezy, The abilty to flip the legs up really helps to keep in short enough to fit in my backpack without it sticking out much at all. And it is really light, with the Sirui 10x ball head it is about a pound lighter than the Gitzo. It is also 12 taller and can get almost a foot lower. Around the house it was reallly helpful to be able to remove the lower section of the center column when I was taking macro shots down low. The quality appears to be good, no complaints there, it's very versatile, lightweight, easy to setup and solid. it is not too bulky and had no issues holding my Olympus M5 II with 40-150 f2.8 lens steady, if you are not familiar the camera is lightweight but the lens is very heavy, it comes with a tripos collar, which I didn' even use the other night. I am very happy With this tripod and hope to have and use it for a long time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like it! Packs down small yet it's a stable full size tripod that's versatile. I give it 4 1/2 stars, doc it a 1/2 star just because you have to buy the head separately.
