The housing is made of lightweight aluminum, which has been anodized to military specifications to ensure superior corrosion resistance, then treated with a layer of weather and wear-resistant paint for even greater durability. The A5D Mk II ships without a required lens port, though various interchangeable bayonet-mount ports are available for wide-angle, macro, and zoom lenses. Dual Nikonos connectors are installed for the attachment of optional external strobes via sync cords. The standard eyepiece offers a full view of the camera's optical viewfinder, and the coated Aqua View Finder, also included, offers an enlarged, enhanced view with 100% coverage, corner-to-corner sharpness, and dioptric adjustment. This version of the housing also includes a vacuum check system, known as the Vacuum Circuitry and Alarm Kit, pre-installed at the factory. This allows you to confirm watertight integrity before the dive.

Waterproofing
Safe to use at depths up to 295'. Watertight seal provided by O-rings and heavy-duty latches with safety locks. This version of the housing also includes a vacuum check system, known as the Vacuum Circuitry and Alarm Kit, pre-installed at the factory. This system consists of a vacuum valve, an extracting pump, and a moisture alarm/pressure sensor with an on/off switch. It is sensitive to atmospheric pressure and allows you to confirm watertight integrity before the dive. The valve and extracting pump contribute by ensuring that a solid vacuum is created inside the housing.
Controls and Handling
Mechanical controls provide easy access to virtually every single camera function, including on/off, live view mode, record on/off, exposure mode, bracketing, metering, focus control, AF-on activation, Star button, AF preferences and all menu functions, such as review, enlarge, delete, histogram and internal SLR preferences. Dual ergonomic hand grips afford optimal handling and comfort. For convenience, all controls are within easy reach and vital functions can be accessed while keeping your hands on the grips. Menu buttons have been angled at 20° and extended when needed for improved operation, and control knobs are grooved and knurled for easier use when wearing thick gloves.
Construction
Built to last, the housing is precision machined from a single block of lightweight aluminum, which has been anodized to military specifications for superior corrosion resistance, and then treated with a layer of weather and wear-resistant paint. Replaceable sacrificial anodes in a couple areas of the housing body protect against corrosion by corroding themselves. Additionally, all function labels are pad-printed so they will not peel off or fade. Four rubber anti-skid pads prevent housing from sliding on wet decks.
Lens Port System
Ships without a required lens port, though various interchangeable, bayonet-mount dome and flat ports are available for wide-angle, macro and zoom lenses. Extension rings and zoom and focus gears are also available separately. This housing allows for the use of lenses from 15mm fisheye to 180mm macro. For full compatibility, see port chart and system chart linked above. The mounting and locking mechanism leaves no doubt that your ports are secure and the seal is watertight. Thanks to the lens release lever, lenses and ports can be exchanged quickly without having to remove the camera from the housing.
Strobe Use
Configured with dual Nikonos connectors for the attachment of optional external strobe flash units via sync cords, which are available separately. The connector on the right-hand side is switchable from 6 pins for use with an optional TTL converter to 2 pins for full manual strobe exposure. The left-hand connector has 2 pins and is only for manual exposure. These bulkhead connectors are user-serviceable and replacing them is done quickly, without the need for any special tool, in a matter of minutes.
Mounting
Both grips accept optional Technical Lighting Control / TLC base brackets or base ball mounts, or other bases/mounts to connect support arms for strobes or video lights. Each grip is configured with two 1/4"-20 mounting holes. There are also additional mounting holes on the housing body itself.

Records sound to accompany your underwater video. Designed specifically for beneath-the-surface audio capture and not for out-of-water recording.
Viewfinders
The standard eyepiece offers a full view of the camera's optical viewfinder, and the coated Aqua View Finder, also included, offers an enlarged, enhanced view with 100% coverage, corner-to-corner sharpness, and dioptric adjustment. This compact Aqua finder will not obstruct your view of the camera's LCD. No special tools are required to mount it onto the housing.
