Panasonic 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 overview

  • 1Description

Characterized by its slim, retractable form factor, the Lumix G Vario 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH. from Panasonic is a 24-64mm equivalent standard zoom for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. Despite its sleek stature, the lens's sophisticated optical design uses three aspherical elements and one extra-low dispersion element to correct spherical and chromatic aberrations for notable sharpness and clarity throughout the zoom range. A stepping AF motor and internal focus design are also employed for quick, quiet focusing performance that suits movie and photo applications, and MEGA O.I.S. helps to ensure sharp handheld photos by compensating for the effects of camera shake.

Compact standard zoom is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and provides a 24-64mm equivalent focal length range.
Three aspherical elements and one extra-low dispersion element control spherical aberrations, distortion, chromatic aberrations, and color fringing for notable sharpness, clarity, and color accuracy throughout the zoom range.
Stepping AF motor and internal focus design provides smooth and quiet focusing performance that is well-suited to both photo and video use.
MEGA Optical Image Stabilizer (O.I.S.) minimizes the appearance of camera shake to realize sharper imagery when shooting handheld.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
Pancake form-factor measures just 0.9"-thick when retracted and not in use.

    Panasonic 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 reviews

Lumix G Vario 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH. Lens is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing buy for the price! Originally designed for the tiny Panasonic GM1 without aperture or focus ring, the Panasonic Lumix G 12-32mm f 3.5-5.6 ASPH is an excellent companion to the Olympus OM-D E-M10 even though it has NO focusing ring. (It IS possible to activate and deactivate the AF as needed and use any of the PASM modes on the E-M10 and possibly the E-M1 and E-M5. You CANNOT manually focus the 12-32mm physically or by the Touch screen as with the GM1, but you can easily POSITION the E-M10 focus-area for very fast AF through the Touch screen or 4-way pointer on the back.) Together with the E-M10 it is a super compact package giving you the advantage of the EVF and Tilt-screen which the Panasonic GM1 does not have. The Panasonic Lumix G 12-32mm is amazingly compact, has excellent contrast, is sharp wide open, and even sharper 1-2 stops down. Collapsed, it projects from the camera body about 3/4 of inch. Construction is solid even with the telescopic action of the zoom, which is ultra smooth. An amazing buy for the price! The only negative things I can say is that it does not include a lens hood and the zoom is a limited 24-64mm (equiv. field-of-view). With a filter thread of 37mm and no manufacturer hood available, a 37-49mm step-up ring may be the perfect solution for those so inclined.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Kit Lens Use the 12-32 with my GM1 and I am very happy with the quality of the lens. Sharp, consistent quality throughout the zoom range. A little distortion at the wide end but otherwise great and starting at a very useful wide-angle setting. Value for money, this is one of the best Lumix lenses out there and better than their other kit zooms by far.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great small zoom. I wanted a 24mm equivalent lens and this gave it to me at a reasonable price. This lens is great on my epl-2. It is very sharp at wide apertures and all focal lengths. It does vignette at 24mm wide open but stopped down one stop it's fine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great lens for the GX7 I shoot with the Lumix DMC-GX7 and the DMC-GX8, and while I like this lens on the latter, the 12-32 is perfect on the GX7. It's small, very sharp, and wider than the 14-140 on my GX8.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful lens.... I needed a lens that had a 12mm focal point micro four thirds to use on my Olympus Pen EP-2 for landscape pictures. Olympus offers an outstanding 12mm prime lens as well as their 9-18mm zoom but the price points are prohibitive for my needs even though I'm an enthusiastic photographer. I read several positive reviews about this Panasonic lens and concur with other customer's impressions as well as industry reviews on it. I'm very pleased with its sharpness at all focal points and it's a joy to use due to its size. It will probably stay on my camera as my all around lens due to its short but useful focal range until those occasions arise when I need a longer zoom and then I'll switch to my Olympus 14-150mm which is also an excellent lens. This Panasonic is light in weight and appears well made. I also like the imprint of the focal points around its barrel for ease in setting up the zoom when you know what you want for those certain photographic moments. I purchased a B&W UV Haze filter for its intended application and also to protect the optics of this lens. B&W is my brand of choice for filters due to their outstanding construction and performance. As usual, B&H Photo did an excellent job in processing my order and delivering on time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from fabulous little lens I use this lens on my Black Magic Pocket camera. Wonderful for view-from-the-street videos. Makes the BM truly a 'pocket' camera.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A favorite lens This is a replacement lens for my Lumix DMC GM1. The original one wore out after two years. It would no longer retract nor adjust the focus. I took thousands of photos and because I love the camera, I bought another 12-32mm lens instead of a new camera. For me, it's a good all around lens keeping my camera small enough to carry in my jacket pocket when traveling abroad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent lens This is a truly excellent lens, very sharp even fully open, with good contrast, and very small. It converts my EPL-5 into a go-anywhere camera with professional image quality. The combination is almost the same size as the LX-7 that I used to carry with me everywhere, but the image quality is in an altogether different league. This lens is of course no match for top of the line M.Zuiko lenses, such as the 12-40 f/2.8, but it fills a different niche altogether: it allows you to have the camera with you virtually at alltimes, which I can't do with the EM-5 +Zuiko Pro lenses. Negative: it gives images a somewhat reddish tint, which is very easy to fix if you shoot raw. If you only shoot jpeg you may have to calibrate the camera in advance. Also, if you are using this lens on an Olympus body, turn off the lens OIS and let the camera IBIS do its magic. I have found the OIS in the lens to be really poor, the Olympus IBIS is always flawless.
