Desmond DBA-2 Overview

The DBA-2 60mm Arca & Manfrotto Compatible Clamp from Desmond is an aluminum clamp that is compatible with both Arca-type plates, and Manfrotto 200PL plates. A removable bull's-eye bubble level helps to level your camera to the horizon, and a locking knob opens and closes the clamp to adjust or remove the plate.

A numbered scale on the clamp allows for precision positioning of Arca-type plates. Two safety stop grooves allow the use of plates with safety screws, to prevent the plates from accidentally sliding out of the clamp. It has a 3/8"-16 threaded hole to mount the clamp onto a tripod or ball head, and also comes with a 1/4"-20 bushing adapter.

What is the advantage of this item over the Desmond DBA-1? This is lighter, and has measurement markings on it. Is that it?
Asked by: Colin
Yes, the Desmond DBA-2 is lighter, slimmer, has the laser engraved measurement markings and the larger removable bubble level when compared to the Desmond DBA-1.

question

I have the Manfrotto MK055XPRO3-BHQ2 Aluminum 3-Section Tripod with XPRO Ball Head and 200PL QR Plate. Will this work to allow me to use an arca swiss L bracket on my camera and attach to tripod head?
Asked by: Nancy G.
Yes, that is correct. It will allow to continue to use your Manfrotto with the L bracket.

question

Anyone knows what is the twist locking mechanism when mounting on a manfrotto ball head? It looks to me that it may twist, as the plate has a groove and the ball head leaver has a groove also.

I would definitely recommend that you also purchase the Desmond DBAD Female to Male Boss Adapter, available from B and H, which is quite inexpensive. It has a ridge on one side which fits in the groove on the underside of the Desmond quick release clamp, and a ridge on the other side which fits in the groove on the Manfrotto ball head lever. The Boss Adapter keeps the quick release camp from turning, and holds it solidly in place. The Boss Adapter also comes with a hex key, and the proper length of hex screw to attach the Desmond QR clamp to the Manfrotto ballhead. I used this combination to convert a Manfrotto 494RC2 ballhead, and a 496RC2 ballhead, and everything works perfectly.
