- Mounts to Flat Base Tripod Heads
- Collapses to 33"
The compact and travel-friendly Mini Jib from Genustech lets you capture those classic sweeping camera moves that only a jib arm can, but without the typical size and weight that comes along with it. Ideal for smaller operations or for filmmakers on the go, the Mini Jib supports loads up to 9.4 lb and extends provides up to 6' of reach, all while collapsing down to 33" and weighing only 3.5 lb. Genustech recommends using dumbbell weights as counterweights to balance the jib arm, which are attached using two Lock Collar Clamps. These clamps allow you to move the weights closer or further away to fine-tune your balance.

question
I've never used a jib before. Thinking of getting for use with a Canon XA20 and/or EOS 70D. I need clarification on how these work. Can I put on my Manfrotto 503 head? If I set my camera for the view I want at eye level, will it maintain that orientation when I raise the camera to full height? Or would I need to view with my Nexus 7 via wi-fi to be sure I'm getting the same field? When fully extended will I have full control of the camera to get the view I want? Will the jib raise and lower smoothly so I can shoot video while moving? Would you recommend the Genustech Mini for my use? I need something very portable, quick and easy to set up and take down by one person. Any suggestions for an alternative jib? I'd like something in the $500 range. Thank you!
The Genustech jib is very easy to set up. There is however, like all equipment, a certain learning curve. One basic is to turn off your optical stabilization. Yes, I know the sounds obvious, but it took me a while to learn this. Another thing is that it's very easy to move too fast, and you really need to slow down. I use the jib with an older 501 head ( just an older version of the 503), and Panasonic AG series camcorders. I have used it with other equipment , but not that often. I use a DelvCam monitor with an HDMI cable to view my shots because I do not have wi-fi on my current camera, so I can't answer all your questions.Smooth operation is possible with the Genustech with practice. It's a lot of jib for a small price.I hope this helps.

question
Is there some kind of bracket available for me to attach my Nexus 7 to use as a monitor? Something that would make it quick and easy to clip on or remove when I set up the jib?
If the mount he has for his Nexus 7 has a 1/4 -20 or 3/8 threaded stud there are several places where an arm can be screwed into the pillar of the Jib-Arm.
