The SBH-808DQ Ball Head from Slik features separate panning and ball positioning locks, as well as tension control, and a round quick-release plate with a cork padded surface to prevent camera twist. This aluminum ball has a numbered scale around the base for precise panning. It attaches to a tripod via a 3/8"-16 thread, and a camera attaches to the 1/4"-20 threaded stud on the QR plate. SLIK PRO 700BHX Reviews
Smooth and simple to handle.
I use this on an older wooden tripod when I use a tripod at all these days. It's often with a 100-400 telephoto lens out in the field photographing birds. It's smooth and I rarely get frustrated because it impedes my panning and tilting as I follow the action. It's replacing an identical head I've used for years, but accidentally over-tightened and now it won't lock in place. So be careful about over-tightening.
Nice features and smooth panning
I use this on a Veravon Slidecam LITE 19 camera slider. I love that the pan knob is different then the ball head knob. I also use a Slik tripod with the same QR Plate so its more interchangeable for me. I like how smoothly it pans - I wasn't expecting that. Downside - no level. Knobs stick out too much for my taste.
