XFX Force HD 5450 overview

  • 1Description

The Radeon HD 5450 Graphics Card from XFX Force features a single slot, low profile form factor and a heastsink-based cooling system for low power consumption and reduced space requirements. It includes driver and application software for Windows, and is suitable for installation in desktop computers with free PCI Express expansion slots.

The GPU in this version of the HD 5450 features a 650 MHz core clock speed, and incorporates 80 stream processors. The stream processors act as shaders to render display graphics as well as support parallel processing, to help out with non-graphics related tasks. To move data to and from the core, the card features 1GB of 533 MHz sDDR3 RAM. Because sDDR3 RAM moves data at two words per cycle the memory has an effective clock speed of 1066 MHz.

For connection to computer monitors, HDTVs, projectors, and more the card features an HDMI port, a dual-link DVI-D (digital only) port, and a VGA port for analog displays.

Popular API Support
Support for DirectX 11, OpenGL 3.2, OpenCL, DirectCompute 11, ATI Stream, and other APIs allows GPU-aware applications to offload some of their computational workload onto the graphics card for better performance
Accelerated Video Transcoding
AMD AVT technology allows video applications to use the graphics card rather than the computer's CPU to transcode highly-compressed video formats such as H.264. The graphics card is more efficient at transcoding video, and this also frees the CPU to accomplish other tasks
Heatsink Cooling
A fan-less heatsink-based cooling system allows the card to keep power consumption below 45 W, and means there are no moving parts to fail
PCI Express 2.1 Support
Provides double the bandwidth of an equivalent width PCI Express 1.0 slot while still retaining backward compatibility, as well as forward compatibility with PCI Express 3.0 motherboards

    XFX Force HD 5450 reviews

Radeon HD 5450 Graphics Card is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple yet powerful Got this card so that I could kvm with my main computer, via a large screen tv, via hdmi. I installed this in a machine running XP, & it worked right away. I installed the software & drivers to make sure they were better, than what I had, rebooted & done. It doesn't have a fan on it, so be sure it's in the flow of some kind, of one of your fans. I don't use it full time, as it is on the secondary computer, which runs some of my software, but it certainly helps when doing Photoshop & other art files. I haven't had any compatibility issues as yet with it, but you never know what will creep up, that it doesn't like to play with. It came with additional braces for installing, but no screws, so you'll have to dig one up, if your case doesn't supply them on the slots.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Basic GPU doesn't require extra power If you're looking for a no-frills discrete GPU that doesn't require a GPU fan or extra power, this could be for you. Windows Experience scores 4.1 for Graphics and 5.9 for Gaming graphics won't set your world on fire, but at this price point its good bang for buck for an older system.
