    Vanguard 233AGH reviews

ESPOD CA 233AGH Aluminum-Alloy Tripod Kit with GH-30 Pistol Grip Ball Head is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from The more I use it the less I love it This tripod is okay, but not great. First, the quick release plate on it is non-standard, even for Vanguard. I don't know why they choose to have different size quick release plates for everything, but it is a pain. Second, it has a very strange approach to panning. I assumed that the pistol grip would pan as well as the camera - that only makes sense, right? Nope. The pistol grip remains stationary and the camera pans separately. That is totally insane for a ball head. I like the hook on the bottom to weight the tripod down and provide stability, and you will need to use it. So, all-in-all it is an okay tripod if you don't do anything too serious with it. I would send it back but I've had it too long.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the pistol grip. The tripod itself is sturdy and the pistol grip is a welcome addition. Movement is very smooth and the unit locks in place very tightly.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's decent, but not for every day use If you need a tripod now and then, this is a decent option. The tripod is lightweight and the pistol grip head is easy to adjust and lock into place exactly where you want it. It's just as easy to unlock and readjust as needed, and follows very smoothly as you pan and tilt. It serves the purpose, but I don't like it and will be buying a beefier tripod and giving this one to someone else. CONS: It doesn't feel sturdy at all. I used it for two events with a Canon 7D Mk II, Grip, and 17-55 lens, with one segment of legs extended to do posed photos. It did not feel stable at all. It felt like it was at the tipping point all the time and even the slightest bump made it want to topple. You definitely want to hang weight on the hook, but it's too low for your camera bag. You'll have to get creative. The carry bag is absolutely worthless. You can not fit the tripod legs and the head inside the bag and close it. You can cinch the drawstrings and almost get it closed, but it never will lock down enough to keep the tripod from wanting to slide out. Also, the bag has strings, not a strap. So those strings catch and hang on everything. When you unpack your tripod, throw the included bag directly into the trash. PROS: Light weight, flip locks, and supports a fair load. Once you lock the head, it stays exactly where you parked it. Legs can be spread very wide and let you get even lower to the ground than you think. Drop the hook out of the center column, unscrew the hook from the plate, and you're left with a stubby mount and 1/4-20 thread. Nice touch! Overall, it works. It's functional and has a good price point. For what you would spend at a big-box store for a plastic garbage tripod, you can get this one which is much better. But, if you're going to be using it with any regularity, spend the extra money to invest in a beefy tripod that will last you 10+ years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Made a Great Choice After looking at this tripod I compared it with a few others offered in this price range on other sites. I quickly found out that this item is priced much higher with all other vendors as Vanguard is a quality company. I received this item very quickly and I was pleased with the initial customer service at BH Photo, the quick delivery, and the professional packaging. I have since used this tripod several times to take photos of my artwork with my Nikon D3300 camera. It is very stable, reliable, and does exactly what it says it will do. It functions very well and is a great investment. I am happy with this item and will highly recommend it. The pistol grip head is amazing and it rotates like a charm. I immediately noticed a difference in the stabilization of the images.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great for a few weeks, not durable. The overall quality of a 60 dollar tripod is not bad, the legs are sturdy, the knobs are all plastic and its single point of failure rests in the center pole that is sustained by a plastic piece that rubs against the aluminum pole to apply pressure for it to stay. It no longer holds in place the the pistol grip at the desired height whether its a phone or mirror-less camera. Look else where for an inexpensive better quality tripod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value for shooting I use this for long range shooting. So far I have used this for supporting a cheap spotting scope calling hits and corrections on steel targets out to 1k, and it fills that role very well. We will see how the long term durability is, but I have also been able to use a contoured support bag draped over the head to get a steady rest for my rifle and make good hits on 8-10 plates from standing and sitting at 600 and 800 yards. My rifle weighs about 12-13lbs, so it's pretty stable even fully extended, as long as you understand that it isn't a Manfrotto, RRS, etc. That said, you can buy about ten of these before you even get to that price point, so I think it's a fair tradeoff. If you decide that you need the quality and durability that comes with the price, the other stuff sure is nice, but this will get you out there spotting (and even shooting) for very little cash.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A nice flexible tripod at a good price. Thanks B&H! I purchased the Alta CA 233AGH tripod for indoor use only. I will use it with light to medium gear. It can also serve as a off camera flash holder. I like the ease of setup and use, this is important when photographing family and friends with younger children . The pistol grip allows easy camera adjustment . The legs are adjustable for height and width. All -in-all a nice unit at a fair price from B&H.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Built. I bought this on sale as a second (travel) tripod specifically to try the Pistol Grip. I am not disappointed. The unit is quite robust in design and sturdy in use. The Arca Swiss plate has a snap in place feature that I quite like too. The pistol grip takes some getting used to but performs flawlessly. The camera is rock sold with no noticeable sag or sway. All told ? I highly recommend
