Vanguard 204AGH overview

  • 1Description

The Vanguard Alta CA 204AGH Aluminum Tripod combines the 4-section aluminum legs with the GH-30 pistol grip head. The tripod can hold 11 lb of gear, and extends to 61.6". Its legs are secured by flip locks, and can be independently adjusted to 20°, 40°, 60°, and 80° angles. Each leg has an angled rubber foot for keeping the tripod from slipping on slippery surfaces.

The rapid center column has a built-in short column that allows you to shoot from just 8.5" above the ground for macro and low-angle photography. A ballast hook on the bottom of the center column provides a place to add weight for added stability.

The GH-30 pistol grip ball head combines the versatility of a 360° panning ball head with the unique feature of one-handed operation. To change your camera position, you simply turn the lock counter-clockwise to release the lock on the ball, reposition your camera, and turn the lock clockwise to lock the ball in position. This enables extremely fast adjustment while freeing your other hand to control your camera. An included QS-36 quick release plate attaches to your camera via a 1/4"-20 mounting stud.

    Vanguard 204AGH reviews

Alta CA 204AGH Aluminum Tripod with Pistol Grip Head is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from What I expected but.... First, it seems to be a pretty good lightweight tripod. Haven't used it much so far. The cons first. OK for still photography. Pretty much impossible to get a smooth pan even with a lightweight video cam. Flip-locks on the legs seem flimsy easy to break. Biggest gripe, if you gong to supply a tripod bag, see that it fits well and that the tripod is easy to get in and out. To me, it seems the bag was not designed for this tripod with the pistol grip head. Seems they just kept the same bag for the tripod before the pistol grip was available, pain in the u-no-what to get in and out of bag. Bag does not close no matter how tight you try to pull the chord. Lesson here, just don't supply a carry bag if it's not a good one. Reduced rating from 4 to 3 stars because a product should not be irritating to use and the bag does that, hear me Alta! The smallest leg extensions are really tiny, affecting stability at full height. The good, overall it does what it's supposed to do, provide a lightweight carry with a camera max weight at 11 pounds. The pistol grip is reasonably functional and provides quick positioning while panning is still a problem for me. 30 years of experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as I expected I use this tripod for home and travel video and panorama shots. Lightweight for day hikes and easy to set up. The pistol grip makes adjustments simple.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Haven't used it yet Although I haven't actually used it yet since I just got it, I did set it up right away. The flip lock legs seemed a little stiff to unlock and lock, but I am hoping it will loosen up with a bit of use. I set the camera on the tripod and liked the pistol grip. It seemed much easier to maneuver around than my last tripod which I had to unscrew every time I wanted to move it. I think this will be much more flexible to use. Ask me again in six months after I have used it more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Your money's worth In search for a good tripod I was recommended to Vanguard from a fellow photographer. I am glad he did. This tripod is better than I could have expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from light tripod I like the ability to lower legs and change the angles independently.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Scope and Mount. This is a good tripod for our new scope. Scope is heavy and this tripod handles it well.
