Kramer SP-14 Overview

The SP-14 Multi-Format Up/Down/Cross Converter from Kramer is a broadcast grade MEMC (Motion Estimation Motion Compensated) frame rate and standards converter. It accepts HD, SD and computer graphics signals and features two 3G-SDI inputs, an HDMI input and a DVI-D (digital only) input. It performs frame rate conversion, format conversion, frame synchronization, scan conversion, and aspect ratio conversion as required, as well as embedded timecode processing and closed caption conversion. It is also applies powerful noise reduction and image enhancement to help improve poor quality video.

Digital, Analog, and Computer Connectivity
The SP-14 can perform conversion on video from a number or source: SDI (up to 3G-SDI at 2Kp resolution), HDMI, DVI-D, VGA (via RGBHV connectors), component (SD or HD), S-Video, and composite. It can also embedded up to eight channels (four stereo pairs) of AES audio. The converted video can be output through SDI, DVI-D, or component
Cross Conversion Capabilities
Near-HD from SD up-conversion, SD to HD, HD to SD, HD to HD with support for CEA and SMPTE formats; scan converts computer VESA or CEA graphics with motion compensation; converts between all common broadcast and film frame rates
Frame Rate Conversion
Uses Motion Estimation Motion Compensated (MEMC), Phase Plane Correlation, and Block Matching Motion Estimation interpolation algorithms to conform the source video to the desired output frame rate
Frame Synchronizer
Genlock inputs allow the video being converted with be synchronized to a external source, such as the house clock
Cadence-Aware MEMC
Attempts to preserve the film look by applying Motion Estimation Motion Compensated (MEMC) interpolation on a scene-by-scene basis when pulling down from 24 fps sources
Dual Redundant PSUs
PSUs can run individually or at the same time. The feature fan cooling for installation in equipment racks, and use dedicated cooling systems in each PSU for high reliability. The SP-14 front panel features STANDBY/ON control key with switch off time delay, and selectable PSU failure indication
2D Detail Enhancement
Supports sharpness control, detail enhance, and real-time unsharp mask
De-interlacing
Post-production and broadcast grade motion adaptive SD and HD de-interlacer with 3:2, 2:2 and non-standard/variable cadence detection
Noise Filtering and Reduction
Per pixel motion adaptive temporal/film noise filtering in HD and SD; MPEG2 codec mosquito and block noise reduction for SD
Multiple Control Options
Operate using front panel controls with character LCD display; Web server for remote control via TCP/IP; and API-based remote control via RS−232 serial port or Ethernet
Additional Features
Scene cut detection
Channel logo insertion
Audio embed and de-embed, and audio delay correction
Flexible proc-amp controls
Built-in test pattern generator
USB port for firmware upgrades
