Matthews Minivator II Overview

The MINIVATOR II 142" Geared Stand from Matthews is a taller and stronger version of the MINIVATOR stand. It has a load capacity of 80 lb, and extends from 55" to 142".

A "Rocky Mountain" leg allows individual leveling adjustment to one leg, which is useful on uneven surfaces, making the MINIVATOR II ideal for location work. 4" casters can be purchased separately, making this versatile stand available for studio and stage use.

A durable, double-cable mechanism keeps both risers traveling at equal proportions with each turn of the handle, ensuring firm and steady movement of the light fixture. Thirty-eight turns of the handle will take the fixture to full height. A "Combo" dual-purpose top casting allows for use of both Junior pin and Baby receiver fixtures.

Matthews Minivator II Reviews

A Great Stand

It is a beast! I can easily handle a 4 x 6 softbox with a Speedotron quad flash head. I also use it with a Speedotron/DeSisti fresnel and a heavy duty adjustable offset arm and can thus shoot butterfly lighting with the light over the camera axis with the stand to the side. Wheels are compulsory for studio use. To be able to get a heavy light into the air without much effort is wonderful. Wish I made the investment many years ago.

This stand will hold anything you mount to it. I bought it to hold the Manfrotto Mega-Boom. Make sure you purchased the optional wheel kit. This thing is a beast!

Great stand. Basically a crank mombo combo. Perfect for a Skypanel s60C, M18 or 4K HMI. heavy enough to stay put. Just light enough to move by yourself. Very happy with it. I have 2.

Expensive but worth the $$$ to lift laser projector

Great build quality. I like how both extensions raise at the same time when turning crank to lift. Load will not come down until you turn the crank down. I like that it collapses down to 63.5" so I can throw it into my vehicle. I considered the Global Truss DT-PRO4000 but it only goes 130" high and this stand is 16 lbs. lighter. I also like the leg extension for uneven surfaces. Helps make this stand extremely stable.

Does the crank mechanism lock automatically and stay in the position you set it, or do you have to manually lock it in place? And when you want to lower the crank is there any sort of safety mechanism in place to ensure it doesn't slip and come down too fast?
Asked by: Michael
The crank mechanism will stay in the position you set it at and how fast it comes down depends on how the amount of cranks you apply to the mechanism.
