The SonyHAP-Z1ES Hi-Res Audio Player delivers an immersive audio output from DSD (DSF, DSDIFF), PCM (44.1/48/88.2/96/176.4/192 kHz at 16-/24-/32-bit), WAV, AIFF, FLAC, ALAC, ATRAC Advanced Lossless, ATRAC, MP3, AAC, and WMA music files. It comes with a built-in 1TB HDD to store all your favorite tracks. The player is composed of an FBB chassis with a heavy frame, beam, and base. The player has built-in Wi-Fi for easy music transfer from your PC, and a 4" display for easy operation. The Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) technology enhances compressed file sound quality by revitalizing the high-frequency signals that are normally truncated during the compression process. Subsequently, it revitalizes your favorite compressed and uncompressed music files by retrieving the waveform tail.

DSD Re-Mastering Engine
This D/A conversion system leverages a high-performance DSP with a field-programmable gate array to convert all signals to 128 Fs DSD (double-rate DSD) signals.
Single Place for Storage
The player features plenty of storage capacity for all of your favorite tracks (smooth operation guaranteed up to 20,000 tracks) with 1TB of internal storage. If you need additional capacity, you may expand externally using external storage (sold separately) and the USB input.
Frequency Response Restored with DSEE
Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) technology works in two ways to deliver natural sound with a spacious feel. The first enhances compressed file sound quality by revitalizing the high-frequency signals that are normally truncated during the compression process. The end-result is an accurate and spacious audio experience. Second, it revitalizes your favorite compressed and uncompressed music files by retrieving the waveform tail. In doing so, audio response remains more coherent and full-bodied, with a smooth finish.
Connect the HAP-Z1ES to an amplifier via noise-free via the balanced L/R XLR inputs or the unbalanced L/R phono jacks, or go. An infrared output allows for connecting an IR blaster. The LAN port provides for a hard-wire connection to your PC for uploading files, and USB allows for expanding storage capacity via an external drive.
Wired or Wireless File Transfer
Install the HAP Music Transfer software on your PC (Compatible with both Windows and Mac computers) and transfer audio files to the HAP-Z1ES player via your network and either wired Ethernet or wireless (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n) connection.
Dedicated Software Control
Download the dedicated HDD Audio Remote App to control your listening experience. Create playlists, search stored music and enjoy full track control. Compatible with both Android and iOS smartphones and tablets, you can easily select and play your music.
Two Large-Capacity Separate Twin Transformers
For analog and digital circuits, powerful transformers are used individually. The transformers are treated with impregnation in a vacuum. In a power block, analog circuit and digital circuit are separated strictly. It can remove some adverse effect from digital noise.
ES Frame and Beam Chassis
The FB chassis, composed of a frame and beams offers both high-precision mounting of parts and high rigidity, achieving a high-fidelity sound field carrying large amounts of information. Notably, the base is composed of two plates of differing thickness that provide sturdy support for the chassis. There are two additional base plates beneath the transformers as well, offering robust reinforcement that anchors the transformers firmly in place.

Hi Theresa H, It depends on the speaker that you are going to use. If the speakers that you need to use doesn't require power, you can just connect it to the available ports at the back of this unit.
