Sony ICF-C1 overview

  • 1Description

The black Sony ICF-C1PJ Alarm Clock Radio with Time Projection is an alarm clock radio that allows you to project the time onto a wall or ceiling. It lets you wake to any of five different nature sounds and set two different wake times. The USB port allows you to charge USB-powered devices like a smartphone, MP3 player, or tablet. Meanwhile the backlit LCD display is easy-to-read and allows you to adjust its brightness. Additional features include a programmable sleep timer, gradual wake alarm, AM/FM radio with presets, and snooze button. Additionally, if there's a power failure or the power cord disconnects accidentally, the backup battery system ensures that your clock and alarm settings are maintained.

Time Projection
The time can be projected onto a wall or ceiling, and the swivel projector can tilt up to 180 degrees, enabling you to project the time virtually anywhere while the adjustable focus knob keeps it all clear. You can also turn the projector on/off

    Sony ICF-C1 reviews

ICF-C1PJ Alarm Clock Radio with Time Projection (Black) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 41.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost Perfect This clock had every feature I was looking for, atomic time, projection, 2 alarms, daylight saving switch. Clock is easy to program (after reading directions). Weekday vs Weekend alarms for each of the 2 alarms so you don't have to keep changing alarm settings depending on the day of the week. The only thing that doesn't make sense is you have to physically turn the projection on each night. It only stays on for 16 hours. I would have preferred permanent on, or night time on (maybe 5pm to 8am). Crazy that you have to hit one switch each night when everything else about the clock is automatic.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Premium Clock Radio: Uneven features I think a clock radio should be pretty intuitive; even to the point of not having to read directions to operate. They are used by sleepy people! The ICF-CIPJ has a great set of features that I LOVE: the excellent clear projection (incl. alarm set), good radio tuner, AM/FM/Nature sounds, fairly good sound (for a clock), ramp up wake, digital tuning, and the feeling of quality. What Sony executed terribly in this box: -- MANY buttons are same size/shape and closely spaced in rows. (MANY buttons on top and back side are identical.) There are even 2 sets of (+) and (-) . One bar is Snooze/Brightness/Enter. This is AN AWFUL design for nighttime use. I would suggest phosphorescent icons (or give us an LED lit panel ??) -- difficult setting and changes. Wait until you try to choose radio alarm instead of buzzer (actually beeper). A non-descript error code blinks a few times, then it picks something. -- difficult to find I just don't think for the price that an easy-to-use alarm clock is too much to ask for. Sony: can I test some designs for you??

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm so happy with this purchase I love seeing the time in big bold numbers on the ceiling when I wake up. The red numbers are not distracting and it allows me to turn the clock face to the dimmest setting. If you sleep on your side you can project the time on the wall so you know the time when you open your eyes. The clock is sturdy enough that it doesn't move when touching the on/off projection button. Previous reviews stated a problem with not knowing to change the time zone that is factory set for the East Coast; Sony has now printed this information and instructions on the box tabs. I like the size and shape of the clock.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good value for money Easy to use, easy to set-up, looks good, works perfectly, the projection is pretty cool and it looks good! The sound is OK but I wouldn't mind if the whole thing was slightly bigger to accommodate for a better speaker. The only real con about it is that it doesn't accept international power, and since I bought it in the US but I'm using it in Europe, I have to use an AC converter. Most appliances these days can accept 110-220V automatically. Not this one. Just 110V.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Conformation Beep Love this clock. The projection is awesome. My only complaint, is that there is an annoying and loud confirmation beep at the end of setting an alarm. This wakes up my wife when I come to bed and set my alarm. Otherwise, 5 stars.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This Clock Has Issues I purchased this because I wanted a clock that had the ceiling projection function and that looked stylish and I know someone else that has one and it works fine. I ended up having to purchase two clocks. I returned the first one because the only thing that worked was the clock - no music, no projection, nothing else worked. However after I purchased the item I read some Amazon reviews that indicated there was a bad production batch and in fact Sony is discontinuing the model. I decided to take one more chance and purchased it through B&H hoping that they had a few left from an earlier production run. Everything on the replacement clock seems to work except for the sleep sounds which makes about 5 buttons across the top of the clock worthless. I kept the clock just for the projection function, hopefully that doesn't fail or I've really wasted my money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Sony Purchase in over 40 Years I've purchased Sony products my whole life. I'm 56 years old. I purchased this clock in March/2016. Today, April 22, 2017, the clock freezes up then shuts off and no longer works. This is, exactly, 28 days after warranty ran out. I've never had a Sony product actually go out for any length of time after warranty. This is the first but will be the last. I would give it a Zero if I could. This is ridiculous.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functional, Versatile Clock This clock is great for us. Can set one alarm for weekdays and one for weekends, or use both for weekdays or every day if you need two wake up times. The numerals are large and easy to read without glasses. This is the first projection alarm I have owned, and it's nice, but while the projector pivots up and down, it does not pivot from side to side. So depending on how you place this on your nightstand, the projected time on the ceiling will probably be at an angle. Takes five minutes to get used to that.
