Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent recorder, lacking on features Records well, sounds good. Works as expected. The downfall: NO way to get the audio files off, unless you record again off the headphone output to something else.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No USB It may record MP3s but there's no way to transfer them to another device.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No download capability Works fine and easy to use. I overlooked the fact that you cannot interact with the unit through a USB connection to a computer. My fault, but makes the unit essentially useless for me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Auto Backlit Display? YES! This was an open box purchase and since my reason for purchase was a lighted display I wish I'd asked to double check before shipping. The BACKLIT DISPLAY is AUTOMATIC. The Sony ICD-BX140 I purchased does not have any type of lighted display so I went to there web site and viewed the instruction manual which was no help. I then called B&H and then ended up calling Sony. After 20-min with Sony I was told it's automatic. The light should just be on. My next dislike is with the recorder off I press & hold the delete button to delete each recording. As soon as I press & hold the delete button this also starts the message I'm trying to delete. In order to delete a recording I have to hold the delete button a few seconds and then release and press again to actually delete it. But during that 5-7 second process I'm hearing my recording play. My 3rd dislike is almost every time I press a button the recorder goes into some kind of setup mode. I turn on the unit and the screen goes through what looks like a setup mode and 3-sec later I'm ready to record. I stop the recording and again I watch as the screen goes through setup mode for it's next command. I only needed this to record my pets when I'm not home. Most times I remember it after I've turned off all the apartment lights and I'm almost out the door so I use a pen light to set the sensitivity on my Olympus or to check depending on what's going on outside. There's been lots of construction going on in and outside of my apartment for months now so the quick sensitivity option on the Olympus is a big plus. But a light would be perfect. Oh well. I got a good deal. I will put it in the drawer with the other failed purchases incase the one I have breaks down.
