Dot Line DL-V7 Overview

The DL-V7 Video Stabilizer from Dot Line is a handheld camera support featuring a soft-grip gimbal handle and three counterweights. It enables you to achieve more stable, shake-free shots when following a subject on foot, climbing up and down stairs, and generally walking or running with your camera. It's ideal for DSLRs and other mid-size and small cameras.

A 1/4"-20 mounting thumbscrew is included and can be positioned along a 4.25" slot on the camera platform. The camera platform has a rubber surface for a secure and scratch-free camera attachment, and features a bubble level at the rear to help measure balance. Two of the counterweights are 0.45 lb each and the third is larger at 0.65 lb. The position of the counterweights can be adjusted 2.5" vertically to fine-tune balance. The gimbal handle becomes easier to maneuver effectively as you get accustomed to it with use.

The stabilizer is made of aluminum and features a black anodized finish for corrosion and wear resistance. The counterweights are stainless steel. The entire assembly with counterweights included totals to a lightweight 2.4 lb.

This product was ready to use, almost straight from the box. I hooked it up to my camera right away, and the ease of use and quality of my video with this stabilizer is amazing! It was affordable and will make such a huge difference in the quality of my videos.

It's an entry level rig

Honestly, I haven't tried a more expensive camera mount or any mobile camera mount. I thought it was stiff, right out of the box, so I've spent some time just moving the handle around. That loosened it up very nicely. It seems to work pretty well moving straight towards your subject. If that's what it's designed for, it works reasonably well. However, I really needed it to walk around vehicles. In that regard, it's no where nearly as stable as I'd hoped. (I'll likely make a small dolly with pneumatic tires.) There were no instructions in or on the box so there's some experimentation/trial & error guessing what to change. For my Nikon D5300, I'm using all 3 weights, which makes it a little bulky/heavy for long periods. I'm going to say I would not recommend this to a friend _but_, if you're on a budget and you're willing to experiment, it's probably worth a shot.

No documentation came with it on how to set it up or calibrate it. Didn't seem any better than the in-camera image stabilizer on my camera.

Not a bad item to have. Does the job but is a little tricky to use.

Well with the price that you pay for this product you should expect the same with its performance, cheap! Your better off spending more money on another product with a better performance!

question

Given a rating scale of 1-10, ten being best: How good of a product is this? Durable? Practical? Ive looked at better models that cost $400-$600, but dont feel I need to spend that much for this type of accessory gear. Can you provide some input about this product? Is it a high seller item?

Dot Line offers tremendous value. The DL-V7 is a great example of an entry level product suitable for beginners or for the casual or occasional user. It is not designed to compete with more expensive professional gear. That said, it is s a fine choice under $100.00. This is a new product and there is no track record accrued yet.

question

I did not see how much weight this device can handle. My camera fully loaded weighs 2lb 2 oz.

The new DLC V7 DSLR Video Rig is designed to help relieve some of the weight problems encountered by the photographer when he puts all of his gear on the rig: DSLR, LED light, microphone, monitor, and follow focus unit. The weight can get to be upwards of 10 lbs.
