Sunpak Ultra Pro 423 overview

  • 1Description

This UltraPRO 423 Tripod Kit from Sunpak supports up to 16 lb, measures 24.5" when folded, and includes both long and short push-and-pull center columns, as well as a 620-CPG Pistol Grip Ball Head. Each of its three-section carbon fiber legs help maximize durability while limiting weight. They feature an independent spread as well as flip locks for rapid deployment, and can be positioned for a minimum height of 10.8" when its short center column is in use, or 19.1" when its long center column is in use. This tripod kit provides a maximum height of 49.5", or 55.3" with its short center column fully raised, and 64.8" with its long center column fully raised.

Cameras, lenses, or sport optics that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to the 620-749 quick release plate, which is secured to the tripod head using a quick release cam lock. Using the Pistol Grip Ball Head's squeeze trigger, the tripod head's integrated ball-and-socket joint can be quickly swiveled 360°, tilted down to a 90° angle, or returned to its upright position.

For added versatility, the center columns are reversible, facilitating low-angle photography where an attached camera is positioned among the tripod's legs instead of above them. Foam covers on each of the legs provide a secure and comfortable grip while moving the tripod, and rubber feet, each with a twist-out metal spike, further enhance stability on a wide variety of surfaces, including soft and uneven soil.

A carry bag with a handle and shoulder strap is included for storage or transport.

    Sunpak Ultra Pro 423 reviews

UltraPRO 423 Tripod Kit with 620-CPG Pistol Grip Ball Head is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Inexpensive and decent quality I use this for outdoor work where the light weight is appreciated on a long hike. I have dropped this over a cliff, drowned it, stepped on it and it is still perfectly operational without problems. The ball head/grip is not the smoothest I have used, but it does the job. My only complaint might be that the leg clamps grip the telescoping leg less tightly than I would like. That means that with a heavier camera or just operator clumsiness, it is quite easy to release the pressure on the clamp, causing the leg to retract. Also a hammock (counterweight) bag hook would be useful. For the price this product is extremely good value.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from disappointed bought this tripod as the carbon fiber legs make it lightweight and wanted to use it for PhotoWalks and hiking; it's rated 16lbs but the head will not hold my camera up (Nikon D7100 with 18-135mm or 18-300mm lens) -- it flops; very disappointing after only having it 4 months and using it infrequently

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy! I'm a newer to photography and this is the first tripod I've purchased. I have another super cheap, aluminum tripod I received but it is a piece of garbage compared. I never realized that tripod legs could spread independent of one another! I recently used it with a t5i and the 18-35 Sigma (pretty heavy lens) and the pistol grip head had no trouble locking in a position. The one small thing that happened was in portrait the camera started to slowly drop as the weight began to unscrew the body from the connecting plate. So I just tuned the camera the other way so the weight would have a tightening effect. With a lighter lens this didn't happen at all. It probably not the lightest or most compact but it was relatively cheap and works for me!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beginner Tripod This tripod was ok and had a lot of the features I want. It is lightweight and packs easily for a day on the trail. I returned this tripod because I found the quick connect a bit unsteady for my camera. I have a heavier DSLR. Other than that, the tripod's movement was fluid and easy to adjust.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Tripod / Best price I've asked the support of B&H before buying this tripod and I received the best advice and when I got my tripod it was even better than I expected, solid as rock for better photos and light enough to carry on everywhere.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Would recommend! I've been shooting real-estate with this tripod almost daily for over a year now and have had almost no issues. Only problem I ran into was the screws on the leg clamps coming loose. Tightened them up about 6 months ago and haven't had a problem since. For the money I don't think there are any other options out there. Only thing I didn't like was the grip setup. I actually took the grip from another real cheap Sunpak model that I felt was more comfortable. Would absolutely recommend this product to friends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ultra Light Excellent for travel & outdoor usage with both rubber and metal spiked feet. Compact lightweight carbon fiber legs with quick release clamps and pistol grip makes for quick easy picture acquisition and height adjustments.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent Mid level Tripod I used it for a couple of photoshoot. Have not been using it for a long time, but it appears as a well made product. The grip and the top portion are made of plastic, and I was disappointed about it, but the grip is strong enough to hold my Canon 70D. The plastic lever that secures the camera does not move or click smoothly, but I am getting used to it. Legs and extending neck (the vertical rod) are nicely constructed It is more like 3.5 stars, rather than 3 or 4 stars.
