watch out you do need a tripod with wide legs for this to not touch the ground.

Useful and reasonably priced

I bought this to reduce vibration in breezy conditions, because hanging a weight (like a backpack) from the tripod top plate hasn't worked for me. It could prevent the tripod from tipping over in the wind, but it hasn't reduced vibration much if at all, even with the weight touches the ground. Withe Oben hammock, even a 5 lb weight has reduced the vibration, and more weight even more reduction. In a light or moderate breeze that doesn't let up it can make the difference between getting a decently sharp shot and not.

This thing is pretty handy to have specially when you're in the field and want your accessories to be readily available within reach. It can't hold extra heavy stuff though particularly a lens, but then again, who wants to put an expensive lens on a cheap hanging container?

Helpful in challenging conditions

I found it toe be effective when forced to plant my tripod in moving water. Toss a few rocks in the hammock and it damps the vibrations quite well. And is light enough to carry along all the time just in case it is needed.

Exactly as you'd expect

I got this for my wife after a trip to Iceland when she had difficulty with the tripod in high wind. I like that this is just a fabric hammock - it's silly to buy pounds and pounds of ballast weight when we like to travel - those 'kg's add up quick on our airline luggage! This is simple, though, and there's almost always something around (rocks) or with you (water bottles) to toss in for stability, then you pack it up easy peasy. Also doubles as a handy little shelf for things she needs to set down but wants to keep off the ground.

Great!

If you are near sand can you just fill this pouch up with sand and use sand as the weight? Let's say we're at the beach.
Asked by: Dylan
You can use sand if your so inclined. I personally would not use sand, I would not want to possibly get sand close to my camera + lens especially in windy conditions or if I need to move the tripod, lower the tripod in anyway. I usually use a rock or water bottle or if the car is close by a 3 pound weight I keep in the car.

Can it be kept on permanently? Will it allow the tripod to fully close?
Asked by: Roland
Yes, it can be kept on the tripod permanently. Like an origami paper cone, it will fold tight when the tripod legs are brought together.

Is it an orange color trim to match the nexstars, or is it red?
Asked by: Debbie
It's sort of an orangish-red. Very bright dark side of orange. In comparing with the nexstars telescopes- it's definitely more on the red spectrum than those. Hope that helps!

Is anyone using this as makeshift spreader of sorts? I have a tripod whose legs spread just a little too wide as their narrowest position and am wondering if this is stable enough to reign them in a little
Asked by: Adam
I have the manfrotto version of this and it is always sliding down the legs of my tripod creating an unintentional (and mildly annoying) mid level spreader. In your case it might work to your advantage. The manfrotto is also held on with hook and eye straps not Velcro so it ain’t going anywhere.

What's the length of the straps that attached this to the legs? I'm looking for one to fit very large Losmandy telescope tripod, the leg diameter is almost 10 inches. very thick tripod legs. My Vanguard version velcro straps are way too short. Thanks in advance for any answers.
Asked by: Jeremy
The velcro portion has an effective circumference when wrapped of approximately 21cm / 8.2", which means the leg at most can have a maximum diameter of 6.6cm / 2.63".
