The Beachtek DXA-SLR ULTRA is a two-channel, active XLR adapter with built-in preamplifiers for using external microphones and other audio gear with any DSLR camera that has a built-in mic input jack.

The low-noise preamplifiers allow you to record high-quality audio directly to the camera which will always be in sync with the video. Direct audio recording eliminates the need to have a separate audio recording device and having to sync the audio in post editing.

The DXA-SLR ULTRA allows you to connect a wide range of audio devices to your camera including wireless systems, mixers, sound boards and professional condenser microphones that require phantom power. It has built-in VU meters for monitoring your input levels and level control knobs for adjusting your output level to the camera.

Detachable rod support base to easily attach a matte box, follow focus and other gear to a rod support rig. Includes two threaded 3" rods
3.5mm input to loop back from camera for playback monitoring
Built-in headphone amplifier with volume control and 3.5mm phone jack lets you monitor the audio from the adapter during recording, or camera during playback
Switchable 12V/OFF/48V phantom power for both channels
Built-in limiters prevent distortion from overly hot inputs
High/low gain setting for each channel and MIC/LINE switches allow connection of a variety of microphones, mixers and other gear for versatility
Easily replaceable 9-volt battery and low battery indicator
Transformer-balanced inputs for isolation and enhanced circuit protection
Sturdy die-cast aluminum enclosure

DXA-SLR ULTRA - 2-Channel Active XLR Adapter is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Works but feels Home-brew It works as advertised but there are drawbacks you might not anticipate. As the battery drains, the voltage decreases and you need to compensate by increasing the volume knobs. This often happens without you noticing. When this happens, it introduces noise and a high-pitched whine into the audio. Using 9-volt batteries is a pain. It would be great if it used one type of camera battery or another. In my use the limited sounded awful. Overall, it works how you'd expect, but with the aforementioned issues, I stopped using it and went to BeachTek's smaller, passive unit.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Did not work out of the box. It seemed promising at first, but I should've known better when inserting the battery into the very low grade plasticky complartment that i was in for trouble. I usually stay away from their gear for quality reasons, but BH had this device priced half off so I couldn't resist. I took it on location and right of out the box it would not power up. I tried another new battery and still the box did would not power up. No lights no nothing. Luckily I was the B camera so it wasn't the end of the world. Needless to say, I returned it for a full refund. One other note. If you are using this item with the supplied rails, for a camera other than a DSLR, the mounting screw and the rails are not center to each other which may create problems when aligning your lens and matte box.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Still Needs Work I used this product with Canon DSLRs and I don't think it improves the quality dramatically vs plugging the wireless lav directly into camera with mini-jack. The advantage of having this preamp over staright into camera would be able to adjust the levels while recording and if you have XLR connector. But the sound from preamp is connected to the camera via mini-jack to the card in the end so audio quality is not much of a gain. For someone like me who does smaller productions with minimal gear, it wasn't much of a help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great with bmpcc I use it with the pocket camera and love it. I used beachtek for a long time and I love this newer unit. The limiter is essential and the unit is well built. Someone mentioned the battery issue as it drains. Yep, it's true. I can burn through a battery in a couple of long days. And, the quality suffers a bit, however, no big deal. The rods are nice, but I rarely use them. I actually grip the beachtek with my left hand and put my elbow against my chest for stability. It's always attached to my camera. I almost bought a sound devices but didn't want to spend a grand. Glad I bought the ultra.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing I'm very disappointed by Beachtek. Their Camcorder Microphone Adapator is outstanding, so I bought the DXA-XLR Ultra believing it would be even better with it's playback monitoring, VU meter, and limiters. Unfortunately it's just not the best audio adapter you could get in the market. By adding the playback monitoring in/out they removed the auxiliary import. Therefore you HAVE to buy a XLR male to female adapter to use a 1/8th input mic. The VU meter is unreliable. It tells you the signal is between -6 and -3 but you review the audio to fine out you peaked several times. The most disappointing is the limiters. They work but they cause a hazy and staticky sound, even when the subject isn't raising their voice. It's not a horrible adapter but I expected Beachtek to blow me away with this adapter; they didn't come close. This adapter is a serious down grade.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Should've bought this ages ago! Have this hooked up to my GH4 for use with lavaliers and shotgun mics. works like a charm and eliminates the clipping of cheaper models. highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for what I needed Very cool active audio interface. I use this with my BM Pocket Cinema Camera. Ch. 1 is for wireless and Ch. 2 is hardwired shotgun (with +48V phantom power) for NAT sound. Preamps in the camera are too low and the DXA solves that problem. Crisp, clean audio.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent audio quality Great product, it greatly improves audio quality on my Canon DSLR 70D. I had bought a good mike that can be plugged directly in the camera but there was a constant small background noise. With the Beachtech, the audio is now perfect!
