The IK Multimedia Tape Echo Vintage Tape Delay is a software plug-in modeled after the Echoplex EP3 Tape Delay, originally from 1969. The concept behind the original hardware was to print the incoming signal with a tape head to 1/4" magnetic tape, while a second tape head played back the printed signal to generate the delay. The delay time can be adjusted by shortening or lengthening the distance between the two magnetic tape heads. The plug-in was designed to emulate the dual tape head and Class-A electronics design, while adding greater flexibility and power through software. The plug-in emulates tape hiss, wow and flutter, wear, and both US and UE AC line hum to recreate the classic sound of the original tape delay.
The plug-in version expands on the hardware by adding BPM sync-able delay times, switchable stereo operation for two independent delay lines, and full automation support within your preferred DAW. It is suitable for adding character to a wide range of sources such as adding echoes to vocals or achieving the iconic guitar slap sound to make surf music.
The plug-in is fully compatible with native 32- and 64-bit applications on both Mac OS X (Universal Binary) and Windows (XP/Vista/7/8) computers. It supports VST, RTAS, AAX, and Audio Units plug-in formats. It can also be used with the T-RackS CS standalone application (sold separately).
