Good and bad with unit

I've owned this unit for a few years now and have some great captures with it. Feedback by playing images back to see if they are sharp and exposure is good is critical in setup by doing a few test shots. My main problem with it, is that when trying to playback an image you have to turn the unit off. Finding the on off button can be tricky because my camera is typically mounted on the tripod at eye level and the trigger is on top of the hot shoe mount. Most of the time I am shooting it is low light conditions too, so I have to get the flashlight out to find the power button, not to mention tilt the camera up to see it too. My workaround is to simply unplug it from the unit. But now, I have wore out the plug, and to get me by, I have taken the unit apart and soldered that connection. Also not a fan of the 9volt battery. If you don't pull it out after every use, it will put a little drain on the power even with it off, and if you don't have a full power battery, you will miss shots.

Has a surprising amount of functions!

This lightning trigger gives you a ton of control (sensitivity to IR, frames per second, shutter delay settings for fireworks) over your photos. Seems to trigger well (I've only had an opportunity to try it once and during the day) and easy to use. I'm excited to try it again.

I would buy this again

Got ths to use for lightning photos. Found out just how useful it could be for time lapse and delay as well. The way it is built makes it basically weather proof. Price isn't bad either.

Love it!!!

I looked at all of the competing products. This is the best one, hands down. The buttons are waterproof, most of the others seem to have buttons that would be susceptible to water intrusion. The price is great. It even has a metal flash foot with a lock. I called their support line and got an actual human on the first try! They were very helpful with their suggestions. I highly recommend this product.

Greta product, fun to use

Does what it says! Great during day/dusk. And at night too, since in my part of the world the lightning strikes in a lightning storm have great gaps in time, so this is better than time exposure. Do read the explanation of how to read or set sensitivity setting carefully! BTW, the manual says what buttons to press to test that it fires the camera... But for an end-to-end test you can point an infrared TV remote at it (press any button on the remote) as it's the infra-red that happens in advance of a bolt that mainly triggers this unit.

Works Great - Lots of Functions

I've only used the trigger once so I still have a lot to learn, but I was able to catch several flashes, so for its primary use, getting lightning photos, it's great. The Bug enabled me to set the sensitivity where I needed it for the lightning. I assume it will work well for fireworks which I'll try on new years, though I haven't had trouble manually shooting fireworks in the past, but I'm eager to see what happens. It's build, making it basically weather proof is a good addition, but for my use, the rain hadn't gotten to me, so how good it's weather proofing is, isn't known for sure yet. The one concern I have is the metal foot with lock to set it in the camera accessory shoe. I would have preferred a heavy-duty non-conductive foot.

question

Will it work on a Nikon D850?
Asked by: Drake
I have no idea. I use mine on a Canon 60D. I think the 'bug is designed to work on almost any camera. There are various cables to interface with most cameras. Only the plug on the camera end varies accordingly to the particular camera. It SHOULD work on almost any Nikon or Canon.

question

How accurate is the unit at capturing lightning during the daytime? I have read multiple warnings about making sure the unit works in the day as well as it does at night. Any experiences with daytime shooting?
