The Lightning Bug Shutter Trigger with Cable for Select Nikon DC-1 Cameras from MK Controls helps you to photograph lightning by sensing the unseen infrared light that precedes a lightning strike and then triggering your camera. It can attach to your camera's hot shoe, or to a cold shoe on a stand.

The Lightning Bug has an LED indicator that displays your current sensitivity level from 1 to 26. The lower the sensitivity is set, the brighter and closer the lightning must be to trigger the Lightning Bug. You can also set the amount of times the Lightning Bug will trigger your camera from 1 to 10 frames per second. Three soft-touch buttons on the top of the unit control the power, FPS, and sensitivity levels, and they are water resistant so you can continue shooting in light rain. The Lightning Bug is made in the USA.

A shutter release cable is included for attaching the Lightning Bug to these compatible cameras: Nikon D80

Lightning Bug Shutter Trigger with Cable for Select Nikon DC-1 Cameras is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing product!! I love it! I looked at all of the competing products. This is the best one, hands down. The buttons are water proof, most of the others seem to have buttons that would be susceptible to water intrusion. The price is great. It even has a metal flash foot with a lock. I called their support line and got an actual human on the first try! They were very helpful with their suggestions. I highly recommend this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Both units did not work I purchased two units and neither one works when we were surrounded by lightning. I conducted all of the diagnostics and nothing worked. I played with the sensitivity, put in new batteries (even though the ones in there were new), cameras were on full manual and set to the parameters recommended by MK Controls. The one thing that the diagnostics did not verify is the yellow lightning bolt coming on when lightning struck that verifies the units are seeing the lightning. We had the entire sky filled with lightning and the units just sat there not triggering. I set both of them on my Nikon D810s to their most sensitive, turned everything off then back on with Lightning Bug first then camera and nothing. These simply did not work and ruined a rare opportunity to capture some amazing sky activity. Totally sick of taking chances on gizmos that in the end don't work. The unit might work for some people some times, but they did not work for me in the most simplistic situation when there really is no way the unit shouldn't have fired since the sky was FILLED with bolts and HUGE clouds being lit up. The infrared the lightning would have sent off to trigger these units would have been plentiful. It's too bad because after doing the research I landed on these as being the best for the price. Their competition would not return my emails when I was researching, so that leaves me with nothing.
