Multi-Blue Compatibility

LG Super Multi Blue optical drives can read and write four types of disc formats in one convenient package. The four disc types are DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD-RAM and Blu-ray Disc. This gives you the option of choosing the best media for your tasks.

BDXL

The BDXL format supports high-capacity Blu-ray discs (up to 128GB write-once discs) for users that need to store a large amount of data.

Serial ATA Technology

Serial ATA is a 1.5 Gb/s replacement for the Parallel ATA physical storage interface used to connect storage devices, such as hard disks and DVD and CD writers to the PC motherboard. Serial ATA is scalable, enables design of smaller PCs, and allows future enhancements to the computing platform.

M-DISC Technology

When used with optional M-DISC optical media, M-DISC technology provides a long-term storage solution that retains data much longer than standard media.

I run a small project studio where I have take family home videos I capture through analog sources and burn them to DVD and BluRay for people. I have not tried burning the BluRay discs yet, but standard DVD's have been great so far. Solid read and write speeds overall.

Dies a young death

I have now owned two of these drives, both of which have stopped reading BluRays after barely over a year. In this case, I purchased in April of 2019, and it stopped working with BluRay discs in August 2020. It is very disappointing to have a drive which fails this early in its life, considering the DVD drive which sits above it is so old it can burn LightScribe discs and has seen far more mileage.

EXCELLENT - 6 YEARS.

No longevity

I am on my second unit, the first which failed after just over 12 months of use, and this one which is failing reading BluRay discs after only eight months. While I intend to contact LG about replacement, I am disappointed with the quality of these drives.

Does this drive support HDR discs?

Does this drive support HDR discs?
Asked by: Degge T
There's nothing the drives do to support HDR or UHD/4k beyond moving bits fast enough and reliably enough to meet the datarate requirement. These drives read a even a QL BD at 6x; that's more than enough 4k hdr is usually around 108Mbps, which comes out to about a BD 3x read speed. As such, this drive is roughly twice as fast a necessary to do this.

For the DVD section, all unmodified drives default to the region of the first DVD-VIDEO you play. Then you can change it four more times. After that, it is trapped in the last region selected.

This model writes and also reads/plays CDs, DVDs and Blurays. You will need software to listen to music, watch DVD movies or watch blu-ray movies, the drive transmits the information and the computer will need software to utilize it.
