Samyang 8mm f/2.8 overview

  • 1Description

The Fujifilm X mount Samyang 8mm f/2.8 UMC Fisheye II Lens is a prime fisheye lens specifically designed for APS-C sized image sensors. Providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 12mm and full 180° angle of view, this lens is well-suited for creative applications as well as interior and architectural subjects. Its fast f/2.8 maximum aperture is further beneficial to working in low-light conditions.

Three extra-low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements have been incorporated into the optical design to minimize chromatic aberrations and distortion in order to produce sharper images. Additionally, the lens' design features a built-in lens hood and a UMC coating has been applied to the lens elements to reduce surface reflections and prevent lens flare and ghosting for improved light transmission and more contrast-rich imagery.

180° fisheye lens provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 12mm, making it ideally suited for interior and architectural subjects.

    Samyang 8mm f/2.8 reviews

8mm f/2.8 Fisheye II Lens for Fujifilm X Mount is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The New and Improved Samyang 8mm I got this to round out the lenses I needed to go with my new Fuji X-T1 system. I already had the Canon 15mm fisheye, but like many others, have decided to move from my Canon 5D MK3 system and my Nikon D800 system, in favor of the smaller Fuji X series. I made this decision after testing the X100S and seeing how wonderful the digital files were .... as good or better than my MK3 and almost as good as my D800 files. Anyways, this new 8mm fisheye is very sharp. Again, maybe a bit soft at the edges wide open, but I have mine basically set to about 1 meter and F8, for my architectural photography, and never have to really focus! It is very compact ... actually smaller than the Fujinon 18-55. A great lens at an even better price. Doesn't really need to be AF.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent and funny lens Very interesting lens, easy to use. It allows to get a unique perspective on subjects. When used horizontally on landscapes, it is like a ultra-wide angle lens. Different styles are possible to get with it. Very sharp lens. Very good feeling in hand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Niche Focal Length Though manual, this lens continues to impress me in situations where I need to go as wide as possible. I have the Fujinon XF10-24 f/4, and yet this Samyang fisheye is a go-to lens for those special occasions where you need to get all of the scene into the frame. Sharp, tiny and well built. Highly recommended!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very sharp - bad flare This is my third Samyang/Rokinon fisheye lens. I've owned this lens for Pentax mount, m4/3, and now Fuji X. This one is *very* sharp in my opinion, at least stopped down as I haven't yet needed to use it closer to wide open, and into the corners. However, it is let down by a very poor flare resistance. I often have to shoot right into the sun for panoramic photography, and also because I like doing that. This one is by far the worst of the 3. The Pentax one did better, and the m4/3 did much, much better. This one not only flares a lot but its flare artifacts can get huge and with a bizarre pattern. This is especially disappointing since I was expecting an mk2 version to help with that aspect, because of new coatings. This is actually worse.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A very good quality lens. Worth more than its price. The lens is built like a tank and produces the result that I want. I was really surprised with the build quality and the output.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good lens! This is a great lens! It is sharp and has a good feel, small size, not too heavy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Samyang 8mm lens Having only shot with this lens once for an assignment, it's early to tell about its long term life, but the build is solid, the images were nice, even shooting in a low light situation. Focus ring smooth and tampered well in that it wasn't on the fly. Not an overly heavy lens or big. A nice addition to the few fuji lenses I have.
