NEXTO DI NVS2501 Overview

The Nexto DI NVS2501 Field Video Storage provides a 512GB high-capacity portable solution for offloading, and previewing of data when on location or in the field. It features slots for available ExpressCard, SD/SDHC/SDXC, and CF/MD media that allow you to transfer data directly from your media card to the Nexto DI. An included Express Card to PCMCIA adapter and available XQD adapters allow you to transfer from P2/P2E and compatible XQD media cards respectively. The NVS2501 features three different copy modes, Fast Copy, Copy & Verify, and Safe Copy that allow you to choose the amount of data verification used when copying your files.

Using the unit's built-in LCD monitor, you can preview video from either the internal drive or from an attached media card or external USB drive. The Nexto DI NVS2501 will act as an external drive when connected to your computer via its mini B USB 2.0 port, Firewire 800 port, or combo eSATA/USB 3.0 port. Note that you cannot use the Combo eSATA/USB 3.0 port to connect to a computer. However, you can copy directly from the unit's internal drive to an attached USB external drive using the combo eSATA/USB 3.0 port, and you can copy from your media card to both the Nexto DI NVS2501 and an attached external USB drive at the same time, via the combo eSATA/USB 3.0 port.

Built-in bad sector recovery allows you to use footage that might have otherwise been lost due to bad disk sectors. With its free-fall sensor, protection protocols, and the included rubber bumpers that provide additional shock protection, the Nexto DI is built to store and protect your data. It can be powered by a rechargeable internal battery, 4 x AA batteries (using the included battery holder), a car with a lighter outlet, and USB or Firewire bus power.

Copy Modes and Performance
Fast Copy: Make a new folder and copy all the memory card data into the folder.
Copy and Verify: Same as Fast Copy, but after copying, the data on the memory card is compared with the copied data on the drive of the NVS2501. Each bit is verified.
Safe Copy: Before copying data, the unit verifies that its hard drive area is safe. If a bad sector is detected, a new, safe area is found - then copying (Fast Copy) will begin.
Making a Secondary Copy to USB Hard Drive
The Nexto DI can operate as a USB Host, when you connect an external USB drive to the combo eSATA/USB 3.0 port. This allows you to copy to an attached USB drive without using a computer. The unit automatically syncs new files to the external USB drive, every time you attach it.
Simultaneous Multi-Copy to Internal Drive & External USB Drive
MCopy (Multi-Copy) enables mirrored data to be copied onto the unit and an external USB Drive at the same time, when connected to the combo eSATA/USB 3.0 port.
Drop Protection
When the NVS2501 detects that it has been dropped (free fall sensor), it turns off the power.
Shock Protection
Removable rubber bumpers add shock protection to the unit, without impeding its performance or connectivity.
Bad Sector Protection
If a video folder contains a bad sector the NVS2501 recovers the video to a new folder. It copies data onto good sectors and replaces the bad data with format dependent dummy sectors. The frames that contain dummy sectors will be filled with block noise but the rest of the clip will be usable.

Success/Failure Feedback.
After backing up your files, the next time you turn the unit on, it displays the previous back up result.
Using the NVS2501 as a Hard Drive
Supports high-speed data transfer to NLE systems:
eSATA: 80 MB/s, 6 minutes, 66 seconds to transfer 32GB.
IEEE1394b (FireWire 800): 75 MB/s, 7 minutes, 10 seconds to transfer 32GB.
USB 2.0: 33 MB/s, 16 minutes, 17 seconds to transfer 32GB.

Note: you cannot connect the Nexto DI to a computer via USB using the combo eSATA/USB 3.0 port, as the USB component acts as a USB Host. You can only connect the Nexto DI to a computer using USB 2.0 via the mini B USB connector.
Versatile Power Options
Its built-in internal battery makes the NVS2501 a good companion for working in the field. The NVS2501 can also be powered by the power adapter, interface cables, a 'AA' battery holder, or external battery.
Charging Time
Approximately 5 hours via power adapter or FireWire 800.
Approximately 9 hours via interface cable.
Approximately 10 hours via 'AA' battery holder.
