Auray CFP-58B overview

  • 1Description

The 8' CFP-58B Carbon Fiber Telescoping Boom Pole with Internal Cable & Bottom XLR Base from Auray is a lightweight and durable boom pole that is loaded with features like anti-tangle integrated cable with triple strain relief system, anti-twist tube design, Neutrik XLR connectors, and easy drop-through cable insertion to keep your sessions trouble and maintenance-free. It allows you to place a microphone close to the subject while remaining at a distance or out of frame, whether recording a narrative film, documentary, or a run-and-gun ENG (Electronic News Gathering) production.

The boom poles feature reinforced carbon fiber composite tubes that offer an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio. They are lightweight yet durable, and are designed to withstand the rigors of field use. They are easy to handle, even in extreme temperatures, and are built with ergonomic twist-locks for a comfortable grip, and anti-twist tube sections, which prevents the tubes from rotating independently of each other.

The removable arrowhead-tip design reduces the weight at the top of the pole - further reducing fatigue - and allows for easy, solderless cable replacement. Featuring a standard 3/8"-16 threaded mount, the boom pole fits most microphone shock mounts.

Optional accessories include carbon fiber extension tubes, cable replacement kits, bottom and side exit housings, and a balance weight. To see a complete list of Auray's selection of boom poles, please click hereybtefsvyxcxuzsxqzbdvay.

Carbon Fiber
Matrix reinforced carbon fiber provides exceptional strength while remaining lightweight, and is comfortable to handle, even in extreme temperatures. The lightweight design reduces handling fatigue during lengthy sessions.
Anti-Twist Tube Sections & Ergonomic Twist-Locks
The anti-twist design prevents the tube sections from rotating independently of each other, and allows for one handed operation of the twist locks. This is particularly useful to boom pole operators when quick length adjustment, as well as fast setup and breakdown, are essential. The ergonomic twist-locks are comfortable to grip. Together they make length adjustment fast and effortless.
Coiled XLR Cable
Auray's coiled XLR cable is a high performance, anti-tangle coiled cable. It will not tangle or stretch, even after being fully extended for many hours. The triple strain relief system enhances the longevity of the integrated cable, and ensures there will be no interruptions to your recording, which can be the result of stress to the connector.
Right Angle XLR Connector
The cable features a Neutrik right angle XLR connector that provides a secure locking connection with flawless signal transfer. The right angle provides more clearance when connected to the back of the microphone, preventing damage to the cable.
Bottom Exit XLR Base
The flush mount Neutrik bottom exit XLR connector is securely integrated into the bottom exit attachment, providing a secure locking connection with excellent signal transfer.
Removable Arrowhead Tip
The unique arrowhead-tip design reduces weight at the top of the pole. Combined with a unique quick connect cable system, it allows for solderless drop-through cable insertion and makes cable replacement quick and uncomplicated, without the need for special tools. Auray's cable replacement kit is sold separately.
Expandable
Carbon fiber extension tubes are optionally available for easily adding length to your boom pole in a pinch as your session requires, without sacrificing strength.

    Auray CFP-58B reviews

CFP-58B Carbon Fiber Telescoping Boom Pole with Internal Cable & Bottom XLR Base (8') is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from 100% satisfied This boom pole is fantastic, the internal cable makes all the difference. A bit pricy for a student filmaker/amateur but you really pay for top quality. I have read other reviews saying that the aluminum version is very fragile and can easily get broken but mine in carbon fiber seems very strong and sturdy. Combine this with the rode blimp, a decent shot gun mic and a good audio recorder and you will have a pro quality audio. I guess the only downside is how the internal wire pulls on the pole when you try to extend it. If you know what I'm talking about, you'll know it's no big deal. Simply be aware of it and you'll be fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy! Very happy with this boom pole, which I bought on sale. The pole is light and modular. If the coiled cable inside gets damaged, I can replace it using a kit from Auray - no soldering required. I originally wanted to purchase a side exit pole, because it offers greater protection for the attached xlr cable, especially when you plan to rest the pole on the ground. But on sale this one was $200 cheaper. When I realized that I could replace the bottom exit with an Auray CFP-RE xlr side-exit for only $30, the decision to buy was a no-brainer.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Critical flaws This is a decent boom pole except for two big things: 1) cable rattles inside the pole, which can find its way into the audio. As a result, we use a different boom pole for manual boom operation and this one for putting on a stand where it won't move. This avoids the cable rattling, but really cuts down on the usability. 2) The XLR coming out of the pole is at a 90 degree angle, and the way it's oriented means it doesn't fit with our existing shock mount. If the XLR simply weren't at a 90 degree angle, it would be MUCH more versatile.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic NAB special price I’ve been waiting for years to get my very own boom. In the past I would always have to borrow one. Not that I use it every day, but to not have my own was a travesty. So I studied for years as to exactly what I wanted. Carbon fiber, check. Not too long, check. Has to be durable, check. Internal cable, check. XLR butt plate, BONUS. B&H sale price,JACKPOT. This pole shrinks down so small I can fit it into a backpack. I love this pole.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Definitly not worth 500$ Bought this neat little boom well below 200$ during a crazy sale. It's a no brainer at that price if you need a small boom for tight situations like cars and bathrooms. This is my fourth boom, and I didn't want to spend too much for it because I won't use it very often. It has nice features, like the anti twist mechanism, and the solderless cable replacement/removal, but you can feel that the build quality is very far from being on par with products from ktek and ambient at around 500-600$ (the current regular price for this Auray boom). In my opinion, this 500$ pricing is just ridiculous. It's a good thing that I bought the 8' version because I wouldnt feeling confortable using it with a full rycote and transmitter at longer lenght. Even at 8', you can definitly feel it bend. And consider that they don't offer stereo cables and bottom pieces. If you were thinking of buying the mono version and upgrade to stereo if needed (like I did) that wont be possible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light yet sturdy I published a full review in ProVideo Coalition magazine here: https://www.provideocoalition.com/review-senal-mc24-el-shotgun-microphone-fiber-carbon-boom/

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very lightweight, a bit noisy. This pole is very lightweight and easy to extend, but the internal cable is a bit noisy when booming. Works well for interview setups on a stand.
