Phottix PH82750 Overview

  • 1Description

Ideal for location shooting, the Phottix Luna Folding Beauty Dish is a 27.5" light shaper that unlike rigid metal dishes, folds down to a fraction of its open size for compact transport and storage.

Constructed from high temperature white softbox material and featuring internal supports made from non-reflective white fiberglass, the beauty dish sets up in about the same time it would take you to remove a standard dish from a case and mount it. While the quality light and fall-off is very similar to metal beauty dishes, you can take the edge off of its output by slipping on the included "shower cap" style front diffuser. The beauty dish comes with a widely compatible Bowens S-type speed ring but speed rings for other major brands are available optionally.

    Phottix PH82750 Reviews

Luna Folding Beauty Dish (White, 27.5") is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from High quality but bulky I was a bit hesitant about ordering this modifier but overall I'm happy with it. I was surprised by how sturdy and rigid it is once open. Someone reviews showed very flimsy looking rods holding the center deflector, but they must have fixed that because the one I was sent has very sturdy rods. While I love the build quality, the main thing I dislike about it is how bulky it is when folded up. Yes, it is more compact than a metal beauty dish, but it still takes up much more room than an umbrella based modifier or non-quick-release softbox. For traveling, I will probably stick to umbrellas or my ultra portable snap together softbox.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mixed bag Overall, very nicely made, (Nylon and reflective materials are great) and an innovative design. The fiberglass rods are not sturdy enough though IMHO. My light blew over in the wind from not a very high level and one of the rods broke. My fault, but still I think the think the thin fiberglass rods are partially to blame. I did end up repairing it with a drill and a replacement rod gotten off the internet and gerry rigged and glued to fit. Works as new again. The one thing I really don't like is the doughnut shaped catch lights in the eyes. Not sure if that's something all beauty lights have in common, but for close up portraits I think it looks very odd.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Um Never again. I love this modifier. Except for one thing. It fell with nothing attached from 3 feet and broke one of the fiberglass rods. Now it works but the light is no longer round. It now has a square edge to the light and wont fold up correctly. So now I have a foldable beauty dish that wont fold and no longer looks like a beauty dish. Fiberglass is a bad idea when looking for quality and durability. Go with the solid metal beauty dish. Save your money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dissapointed I purchased two of these beauty dishes and two of the very overpriced speed light adapters also in anticipation of a great product. Sadly it is not a great product. It actually is not easy to fold up and down.. its quite stiff. The material used is very rigid and as a result the folding/flexible rods broke after the 5-6 time I used the first dish. The second dish broke on its first use. I own a folding Octa box by another supplier and it works amazingly well.. The materials used just do not cut it and the product does not work as suggested.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased with the quality and speed of setup I read reviews of this breaking but I find the quality really good. It pops up in a second and I am ready to go. I cannot really comment on the light quality but I figure that since award winning photographer, Jason Lanier, uses it, it must do a decent job of lighting the subject.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Soft light beautiful catchlights I have only tested this once, with my little girl. Funny thing was, that without the sock the light was softer than with the sock. I love how easy and quick it is to set up and fold back up.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not quite there yet.. Worked well and held up for the first few uses, and then a rod broke. I was a able to exchange it for a new one and within 5-10 uses 3 rods snapped on my replacement modifier.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value Built better than I thought it would be. Would be great if a speedlight bracket was included.

Can this beauty dish work with quantum trio?
    Asked by: Dennis
I doubt if there is a quantum trio mount. I am using a Lumodi beauty disk for my quantum. They are the only one I can find 2 years ago.

Is the center opening wide enough to accept a speedlight?
    Asked by: Anonymous
You can use the Phottix mount that is designed to use the Mitros flashes with this beauty dish. I have all these components and they work great. The Interfit flashes work great, too.
