Unit overheating

This unit along w/ the analog generation model are notarious for overheating. The unit operates 24x7 in order to support a broadcast feed. The new 4K unit is beginning to faulter and I can't help believe that it is overheating. The unit is in a conditioned room and no other equipment gets anywhere as hot. I even have it elevated to create a bottom air-gap. I'm going to try to put a heat sink/fan on the unit. Does Blackmagic have a response to this? This is the 3rd unit I have had problems.

our firm does a few PEG systems still running old composite analog. Newer systems are strictly SDI. These do the trick to get in and out as needed.

question

worked for 2 weeks and the main SDI input died. what can cause it? in the meantime I would get often some rolling lines and would need power reset
Asked by: Anonymous
I often get the rolling lines on mine and have to power cycle it. The box doesn't like an unsynched signal or a switched signal (even if all are on the same genlock).MY SDI input still works though, I would suggest the Grass Valley ADVC G2, it costs more but works much better for critical applications.

question

What is the image quality like converting HD-SDI to HD Component? Are there any artifacts or a loss of resolution? I have an HD CRT that I'd like to use, but it only has analog HD inputs. Cheers!
Asked by: Craig
HD-SDI Digital HD was a step up in image quality over Component Analog HD. So in a critical analysis, yes, you will see a slight difference. But for casual use, there is no loss in quality to the degree that it would interfere with your use or enjoyment of your CRT display. After all, it was what we had for years and were quite happy with it.

question

Is there a manual for this product? I want to convert 720P/ to NTSC analog 525/29.97. Do I need to toggle the processing switch 1 until the output is what I want? Not obvious at all. Thanks Al
Asked by: May K.
From the PDF manual:Down conversion with 3 types of aspect ratios by cycling through switch 1. Each time you cycle between Off and On you apply anamorphic, center cut or letterbox aspect ratios. For both HD and Ultra HD input, set switch to OFF to output HD analog via the component outputs.Set switch to ON and Ultra HD input downconverts to either analog PAL/NTSC or HD component depending on the other switch settings. 4K DCI will be cropped on the component HD output. An ON setting with HD input will be downconverted to analog PAL/NTSC or component depending on the other switch settings. When connected to the Blackmagic Converter Utility via USB, your down conversion settings are controlled by the software. If you want the converter to remember your software settings, disconnect from the computer, power cycle your converter and set your down conversion using mini switch 1.

The Blackmagic Design Mini Converter SDI to Analog is for cable and signal compatibility for video hardware solutions. It will not produce the look of an older camera through its conversion.

I have a Marshall CV226 3G SDI camera and a analog DVR. Will this convert it into a usable format for the DVR?
Asked by: Steven
In a format of 59.94p, 1080p, the Blackmagic Design Mini Converter SDI to Analog will convert such a signal to an analog NTSC signal, which should then be accepted by an NTSC compatible analog DVR.

Want take coax output from cable box to component inputs on tv. Will this work?
Asked by: Larry
Typically, it's a coaxial RF that comes from that port. That's not the same as SDI. If your cable box has an HDMI output, there are adapters that split HDMI to Component for maybe $20-30.
