The Pentax smc FA 645 80-160mm f/4.5 Lens is a medium telephoto zoom lens with a 35mm equivalent focal length of 63-126.5mm and a maximum aperture of f/4.5. The autofocus lens can stop down to f/32 and features multiple types of low dispersion glass elements throughout its 11 element and 10 group construction. This is benefited by the use of a Super Multi Coating that helps eliminate flare and ghosting.

The lens can focus as close as 3.3' during use and has an eight blade diaphragm to help create smooth out-of-focus areas. Also, it can accept 77mm filters via a front thread and includes a lens hood. The 80-160mm also features the ability to turn the front of the lens while the hood is attached for easily adjusting your filters.

The front of the lens can be rotated while the hood is attached allowing for easy rotation of filters like circular polarizers

    smc FA 645 80-160mm f/4.5 Lens is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from High quality telephoto zoom I have had this lens for about a month now. The image quality has been pretty good so far. There's a tiny bit of color fringing when shot wide open at f/4.5, but it is very subtle unless you zoom in 100%. However, I shoot with this lens mostly in the studio where the apertures range from f/8 to f/16. The lens is very sharp even at f/4.5. The only drawback is the weight. When combined with the Pentax 645D camera, the combo can be pretty heavy if you shoot handheld for hours.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must-have! I shoot the FA 80/160 on my 645n and it's very sharp for a zoom. This lens gets a 9.6 user rating on the Pentax Forums and may be the best of the zooms. Bokeh is pleasant and focus is super quick.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pentax 645z Wonderfully sharp lens. It's a wonderful zoom for portraits, especially at f/8 when shooting strobes. Simply fantastic!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Lens The 3-star rating reflects my being torn in reviewing this lens. It's sharp, has acceptable contrast and the build quality is decent. The lens is an okay value, and I'm not disappointed by the image quality. On the other hand, Pentax has been making the 645D and 645Z cameras for years and should have long ago introduced an upgraded, portrait-oriented zoom in this approximate focal length range that's a little faster, has quiet ultrasonic focus, image stabilization, better weather seals and better coatings. That Pentax continues to sell so many old lenses like the 80-160mm FA for state-of-the-art digital MF bodies is unfortunate.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sharp and Heavy! I love the Pentax 645Z and this lens! I gave the lens 4-stars because it doesn't have image stabilization. I've mostly been using it for landscapes while on vacation right now so it's been on a tripod most of the time and image stabilization hasn't been much of a factor.Shooting with a polarizing filter is easy due to the design of the lens as it has a dial at the front of the lens that allows you to rotate the front element of the lens. It's not useful, of course, with a variable neutral density filter as you must physically rotate the filter bezel to change the density. I didn't check slow autofocus as a con because i don't think it's slow for a medium format lens. If, however, you're comparing it to a Canon 1-DX or Nikon equivalent then, yes, the autofocus will seem slow. For the posted image, I selected an image I had not processed in Lightroom, i.e. as shot white balance, exposure, composition, etc, etc. It's as close to as shot as I could get and was exported with LR5 defaults for sharpening for screen viewing. The file is only 2400pixels on the long side so it's NOT representative of the image quality produced by a medium format system. The image was shot at 1/15 sec, f11, ISO 100, 118mm focal length from a tripod. An uncompressed, unsharpened, 100% quality, Adobe RGB color space JPG export from LR5 of the original DNG file is just slightly larger than 25MB ............
