A fine Finder Scope

I am very impressed with the construction and operation of this instrument. I did have one issue with the illuminator - It seemed to use up the battery power rather quickly, so I purchased new batteries. When I went to replace the batteries I found that a wire connecting the circuit board to the battery contact was broken. This was the reason that the illuminator was not working. I had to replace the illuminator. Other than this issue the Finder Scope has worked perfectly.

Did not live up to the Explore Scientific quality

Purchased this finder scope to go with my Explore Scientific ED127CF scope. Overall I was disappointed with this finder scope. Both finder scopes (original one and replacement one) had dust in the eyepiece which seemed to materialize as I focused the reticle for first time use. It was almost as if something was shaving off into the eyepiece. B&H was fantastic about taking back both finder scopes - a very easy return process. Explore Scientific was fantastic as well when I notified them of the problem after the replacement scope had the same issue. They implemented a QC program of their inhouse stock - which I thought was awesome. They also offered to take the scope and fix it at no charge; however, I declined as I had lost confidence in the finder scope. I don't think my bad experience with the Explore Scientific finder scope is indicative of their overall quality. I have the Explore Scientific ED127CF scope and the 82deg eyepieces - both of which have very clean and fantastic optics.

question

is the bracket a universal dovetail bracket? and what does the illuminated feature look like? like a red dot or what?
Asked by: Anonymous
I have an older Meade LX200 12 , and the dovetail bracket did not fit my scope. I used my existing bracket and placed this finder inside of it. The illumination lights up a crosshair. Instead of simply being two lines that cross over one another, there is an open circle at the center of the crosshair. The included redlight isn't very good though, and I plan to replace it with a model from another manufacturer.
