Dana Dolly DDUK1 Overview

The Dana Dolly Portable Dolly System with universal track ends is a heavy duty camera dolly platform that rides on 16 custom modified soft polyurethane wheels that resist flat spotting and use ABEC-7-rated precision bearings providing you with extremely smooth dolly shots. The wheel trucks swivel, allowing the dolly to ride on available straight or curved track, which you must source separately. The manufacturer recommends using standard speed rail or Schedule 80 aluminum pipe of compatible size. The dolly includes two universal track ends, which accept pipe from 1.5" up to 1.9" O.D., and fit into available standard Junior stand receivers or 5/8" Baby pins.. A center support is included for long track runs or when using heavy cameras.

The dolly platform is machined from aluminum and features a standard Mitchell mount including a 2.75" center hole with a machined key way. The included 75mm and 100mm bowl adapters allow you to mount fluid heads with standard 75mm or 100mm leveling balls. The platform incorporates one 3/8" through hole, one 1/4"-20 threaded hole, and one 3/8"-16 threaded hole on each side of the dolly platform for a total of 6 accessory mounting holes. The Dana dolly is designed and manufactured in the USA.

Custom Machined Track Wheels
The key to the Dana dolly's smooth ride are the 16 custom machined track wheels.
  • The wheels are custom made soft, then turned down to be round within 1/1000 of an inch to eliminate the bounce that normal skateboard wheels suffer from.
  • You can park the dolly with 100 pounds of camera and accessories on the track at 100° F for an hour without the wheels flat spotting.
  • Another benefit from the machining the wheels is reduced squeak during use.
  • The wheels are custom modified 16 at a time on a special machine, providing uniformity.

Wheel Trucks
  • The wheel trucks can swivel on the dolly, which allows it to ride on straight and curved track.
  • A felt washer separates the dolly platform from the wheel trucks, helping to reduce noise.
  • The included T-Tool features a 1/2, 9/16, and 3/8" ends.
  • It allows you to tighten the wheel trucks using the 9/16th end to suit your taste.
Mitchell Mount
The Mitchell mount features an elongated key way, allowing you to use non standard adapters.
Track Supports
Track supports fit into available standard Junior stand receivers or 5/8" Baby pin, although Dana Dolly recommends the use of available beefy baby stands at a minimum and to avoid thin walled aluminum stands

I want to mount it to two regular Matthews C-stands. Do I need an adapter?
Asked by: Colin
The Dana Dolly Portable Dolly System with Universal Track Ends (B&H# DADDUK1) comes with two Universal Track Ends and a Center Support which may be installed on 5/8" male spigots (A.K.A. baby pins) or into 1 1/8" receivers (A.K.A. junior receivers), both being common connectors on the tops of many light stands. For example, the Matthews Century C Stand with Mini Base, Black - 5.25' (1.6m) (B&H# MALSC20MBB) or Matthews Mini Slider Stand (38") (B&H# MALSMS) may be used for that purpose. Please keep the weight limits of any stand used in mind, and use a sandbag with the stand whenever appropriate.

Can this work without the need for tracks ...

Can this work without the need for tracks (assuming we are on a smooth surface like an indoor basketball court)?
Asked by: NICHOLAS
We're afraid not, this dolly will require tracks. Instead we recommend the MYT Works Rover Dolly, which can be used without tracks, you will just need to add a 75mm Bowl to connect a head to it. https://bhpho.to/2Mxw5QB https://bhpho.to/31V7pVK

Will the Dana Dolly fit in a Pelican 1510?

Will the Dana Dolly fit in a Pelican 1510?
Asked by: Joseph
The Pelican 1510 Carry-On Case with Foam Set, B&H # PE1510FB, has interior dimensions of 19.8 x 11 x 7.6 inches. The Dana Dolly platform is listed as 14 x 10 inches, it is possible it can fit but there will not be much wiggle room. You may want to consider a larger case, like the Pelican 1560 Case with Foam Set (Black), B&H # PE1560FB, instead. https://bhpho.to/2rFkQrm

The Pelican 1560 Case with Foam Set (Black), B&H # PE1560FB would be a very viable hard case option for use with the Dana Dolly Portable Dolly System with Universal Track Ends.

question

Is it worth paying extra for the universal track ends instead of the original ?
Asked by: Pedro
As a long time movie professional, I can tell you Murphy's law applies to what happens on set. If you are in a controlled set up and you know for a fact what size of speed rail you always will be using, do save your money and get the original style. However, if you are working freelance, and someone else will be supplying the speed rail, save your self the grief of failure on set because the ends you have don't fit and you can't shoot. Get the universal. They are worth the piece of mind in that situation.

What head is recommended? Or considered the best?
Asked by: Lavalle
The eMotimo Spectrum ST4 Pro Bundle + Dana Dolly Integration (V-Mount)(BH #EM417VMLCDDI) is a good kit to consider pariging with the Dana Dolly Portable Dolly System Rental Kit with Universal Track Ends for a motorized setup. See: https://bit.ly/3kTKJEc Or you could consider a more traditional fluid head like the Sachtler Ace XL Fluid Head (75mm Bowl)(B&H # SAS21500004), See: https://bit.ly/3WRVl3A
