What is the battery life for these AAs using the D spacer? Do they last as long as an alkaline D?
No they do not. To get a rough idea, an alkaline D-cell battery has about 10-18 Ah capacity depending on how much current is being drawn, while a AA eneloop battery has a 2 Ah capacity. It is a bit more complicated than that - for example, a fully charged NiMH starts at a slightly lower voltage then alkaline but drops off more gradually, so that can make the NiMH better or worse than alkaline, depending on how high of a voltage your device needs. But it gives is a good rough idea.
