Slik 300DX overview

  • 1Description

This SLIK Able 300 DX Tripod supports up to 11.0 lb, measures 25.8" when folded, and includes a 3-way, pan-and-tilt head with quick release plate. Each of its 3-section legs features an independent spread, a 3-position angle lock, and can be extended or collapsed by first loosening its thumbscrew lock. This tripod can be positioned for a minimum height of 18.5" to a maximum height of 50.6", or 61.0" with its push-and-pull, rapid center column fully raised. For added versatility, the center column is reversible, facilitating low-angle photography where an attached camera is positioned among the tripod's legs instead of above them. To further enhance stability on a wide variety of surfaces, each of the aluminum-alloy legs includes a rubber foot.

Cameras, sport optics, or camcorders that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to the quick release plate, which is secured to the tripod's pan-and-tilt head using a quick release cam lock. The head can be rotated 360°, and tilted 90° backwards or forwards, as well as sideways for portrait orientation. Each of these three movements function independently of each other and can be locked into place.

    Slik 300DX reviews

Able 300 DX Tripod with 3-Way, Pan-and-Tilt Head is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from The very Able Able I've used this for landscapes, portraits, weddings, and night events and I like it so far. As this is my first tripod purchase, I am highly satisfied with it's capabilities. i.e.: Nice range of motion, sturdiness due to the heavier weight, ease of use. The only gripe, if really worth complaining about, is the set up time for different shots. Since the clamps are twist closures, not actual clamps, it takes a little longer to wind and unwind to different heights. That said, I think this is a great first tripod. Super sturdy, will last a very long time, and gets the shot you want.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good tripod, but slow to setup This is a great sturdy tripod for the money. The quick release plate makes mounting and unmounting a breeze. The part that I don't like are the wingnut legs. I'm a wedding photographer and seconds count when I'm racing against the clock. The wingnuts are slow to lock/unlock compared to other technologies. If you're not in a hurry to setup and take down the tripod (landscape photographer), there is no issue. Expertise: Professional Wedding Photographer Problems Encountered: Slow leg adjustment Previous Equivalent Item Owned: Cheaper tripods

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tripod I have had my 300DX for ten years, and it is just as goodtoday as it was the day I bought it. It is very well madeand extremely durable, and while I agree with the otherreviewer that the wing nuts do take more time to secure, Ihave never had a leg slip on this tripod. And once set up,it feels rock solid. At times I have wished it had a builtin level, but that is a minor gripe.I would strongly recommend this tripod. Expertise: Overly Enthusiastic Amateur

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought my first one 11 years ago. Sturdy, light enough to carry on a backpack, versatile. The only thing I would do differently, is get rid of the quick release mount and go back to a fixed tripod screw on the mount. Small matter that in no way detracts from the usability and effectiveness of the tripod. Go

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable, solid performance ... I recently used this tripod while traveling in the UK and Europe for fifteen weeks. I just loved it! It is sure, solid, and well made. The controls are easy to use. When you turn / crank-down on ANY control, it is solid as a rock, and stays put, even with a (fairly) heavy EOS 6D, with battery grip, and a 24-70 f/2.8 attached. The quick release plate on the head/camera is solid, and I'd attach a camera, carry it around, and never, ever worry about it coming lose. The legs are easy to fold/unfold, extend/collapse. The handles on the pan-head unscrew, and one screws into the other, making it easy to pack up (without the handles protruding). So, it fit nicely on my camera bag (backpack). However, it is not lightweight, and it can get a teensy tiresome schlepping it around. The performance is so solid, I just considered it part of the deal and was happy to have it with me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple, Sturdy, Well Built I wanted to purchase a standard tripod that had a good weight capacity for holding my XTi and 17-70mm lens plus a vertical grip. The SLIK 300DX arrived and I was very pleased with the size and build quality of the product. I for one am glad to have a piece of equipment that is heavy and will hold my camera stead for night photography, group shots, and general use. I wish it came with its own bag as some other tripods do, but my wife is going to build me a custom bag that will be of probably much higher quality than a nylon carry bag. The other thing I like about the tripod is the locking screws. If a tripod has the standard clip locks for the legs it would be hard to replace/repair when they break. This locking system will allow me to easily repair if it ever breaks. Great tripod, fair price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Pocketknife of Tripods This is the perfect basic tripod, just like a basic pocketknife, that everyone needs. Not too heavy, it's light enough to carry almost anywhere. It's strong, made of quality materials and stout enough to hold almost any camera/lens configuration. The basic three-way pan/tilt head with excellent quick release plate is perfect, the three section legs keep the tripod small and the leg knobs should be last for years long after leg locks would have worn out!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good and trustworthy I have owned several tripods since taking up photography and I have found this one very sturdy and great for the price but it's a little heavy for me if I have a good distance to go for some photo's. I don't really care for the wingnuts but again for the price I think this is one tripod you can depend on. I have no worries of slipage once I have my camera mounted
