Windows 7 Ultimate from Microsoft is a software operating system that combines all the features of Windows 7 Home, and Pro. Designed to cover the needs of both home and business users, you will find standard features such as Internet Explorer 8, Windows Media Center, homegroup networking, Windows XP mode plus additional features only available with the Ultimate edition such as BitLocker and AppLocker. Improvements to features and services with Service Pack 1 include previously released security, performance, and stability updates, HDMI audio device connectivity, XPS Viewer printing, and data restore from previous folders in Windows Explorer after restarting.

As part of Windows 7 Ultimate, the BitLocker and BitLocker to Go programs allow you to encrypt internal and external storage devices. To help protect your data in case your PC is ever lost or stolen, Microsoft has made BitLocker easier to use. With Windows Vista you may have to repartition the hard drive, but since Windows 7 creates that second partition automatically upon installation, all you have to do is right click on a drive to enable BitLocker. With BitLocker to Go, you can share protected data on portable storage devices and grant permission to write or just read. "Read-only" is the only option for computers running Windows Vista and XP.

The AppLocker program allows you to create policies that specify which users can run approved applications, installation programs, and scripts to help better secure your computer and network. Once the policy has been created, you can test the rules in Audit Only mode before they start blocking applications from running and affecting people's work. Windows Ultimate can also support 35 languages which you can download online, to change text and type within the OS.

Please note that the use of this OEM version of Windows 7 Ultimate is subject to the terms of Microsoft's OEM System Builder Channel License. This software is intended for pre-installation on a new personal computer for resale. This OEM version requires the assembler to provide end user support for the Windows software and cannot be transferred to another computer once it is installed. To acquire Windows software with support provided by Microsoft, please purchase the retail version of Windows 7 Ultimate.

Searching and protection have been enhanced. When running a search on the Internet, IE8 will also search your browsing history, making it easier to locate the website you want. Instant Search will pull up results as soon as you start typing. Turn on Microsoft's SmartScreen filter that will compare a web address against a database of websites known for distributing malicious software or for hosting files others have reported as unsafe. InPrivate Browsing helps you protect your data and privacy by preventing your browsing history, temporary Internet files, data from forms, and usernames/passwords from being stored in the browser
Improved Searching in Windows 7
When searching for a file on your computer you can type your term in the Start Menu and Windows will search all your programs, data, and PC settings. By just typing a few letters you'll be presented with a list of matching programs, documents, pictures, music, emails, and other files, all arranged by category. Compared to previous versions of Windows, the search engine uses an improved algorithm to highlight certain parts of the file content, names, paths, and tags so you can easily see why they are important. When you run a search within Windows Explorer, the results will be focused in a specific folder or in a library you're already browsing. Also, the search box located in the upper right hand corner has a Query Builder feature that offers suggestions for narrowing your results. This feature uses the properties and metadata of your documents to help refine your results
