There is an inquiry and an answer about fitting this item with a Sony ECM-55B, which is the same size as a Sony ECM-44B. The respondent said it WAS compatible. In my testing, i found this not to be correct. The 44b slips in and out of the hole with no resistance. There is nothing holding the mic inside the furry. When i mounted the foam screen on the mic, then inserted it into the hole, it fit more snugly, but not snug enough to withstand the slightest tug. The mic (with the foam screen attached) still came out of the hole fairly easily, leaving me with the impression that this setup would be very touchy to the slightest bumping, and become detached, or the furry would fall off, never to be seen again. At least the foam screen sort of snapped on to the mic, whereas the furry did not have a snug enough feel to be worthy of guarded trust. Unfortunately, i found no Rycote (or other brand for that matter) product on B&H that listed its compatibility with the 44B, so I'm not entirely pleased with this solution, hence, the four stars. Instead, as noted above, i relied upon another user's answer to a question to make my purchase decision, not the Rycote listing of compatible mics. Rycote does NOT list the 44B as a compatible mic. The other issue, which is quite obvious, is the size of this item. There's no question that it will be prominent in your image when mounted on the exterior of your subject in the usual lapel, tie or collar. It seems that you have to make this tradeoff for clarity of sound, which introduces a visual distraction in favor of intelligible dialog. Or, forget the lavalier entirely and shoot with a shotgun in a blimp on a boom pole. The blimp setup is at least a thousand dollars, without the shotgun, which is likely to be around another thousand. These little buggers are $20 each. No comparison for the tradeoff. Still, it's not an ideal solution, but it's all i've got to work with. Post audio sweetening of wind hiss (not thumping) is impossible without severely cutting the highs, which are necessary for a bit of sibilance to retain intelligibility in the dialog. This item seems to be the better option amongst all the other worse solutions. Perhaps this might inspire Rycote to make a Windjammer to fit a 44B.
