A unique and compact lens within the Leica M-mount lineup, the Macro-Elmar-M 90mm f/4 is a short telephoto prime characterized by its retractable design and compatibility with the Macro-Adapter-M for close-up shooting. It features a simple but effective four elements in four groups optical design, which maintains sharpness and even illumination throughout the aperture and focusing ranges. A multi-layer anti-reflective coating has also been applied to individual elements to control lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity. Its manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 2.6' away with a reproduction ratio of 1:6.7.

When coupled with the optional Macro-Adapter-M and used on a camera featuring live view, this lens is also able to achieve a minimum focusing distance of 16.1" with a reproduction ratio of 1:2. The lens' retractable design also enables it to maintain infinity focus when used with the Macro-Adapter-M.

Four elements within four groups optical design delivers edge-to-edge sharpness and illumination throughout the aperture range.
Retractable lens design (1.6"-long when collapsed) helps to maintain a compact form factor during traveling.
A multi-layered anti-reflective coating has been applied to individual lens elements to minimize lens flare and ghosting for color-neutral, contrast-rich imagery.
Manual focus design provides a minimum focusing distance of 2.6' with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:6.7.
When paired with the optional Macro-Adapter-M, and used on a camera featuring live view, a minimum focusing distance of 16.1" is possible with a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:2. Additionally, infinity focusing is still possible when used in combination with the Macro-Adapter-M.

    Macro-Elmar-M 90mm f/4 Lens is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb lens Although too slow for hand held shots in real dim light, with my M9 either in my studio or outside even on cloudy days it's performance is excellent corner to corner. My 90 Apo might have a slight edge at f4.0 over the Macro wide open but only off a tripod. I can't see any difference at F8.0 in performance. For my last trip to Alaska and Germany and France, I took the Macro leaving the 90 Apo behind because of the size and weight and was not the least bit disappointed. Shooting in DNG, converting to Tiff with minimal tweaks, this lens goes to needle sharp 17 x 22 inch Epson print images with ease right to the corners.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Compact macro / tele combo I like it for its compact size and use it with the new #14652 macro adapter (live view). Nothing to complain about image quality so far. With f4, low-light use can be tricky, but, used for travel, compactness and low weight are usually more important to me than highest speed. The close-up range is not spectacular for a macro, but OK for me. This M90mm/f4 has a wider lens ring than earlier versions, which makes it easier to handle in the collapsed position on the macro adapter. However, an unwelcome side effect of that wider ring is that the included lens hood #12575 cannot be mounted anymore in the reversed 'storage' position as on earlier M90mm/f4 - Leica acknowledged that 'feature' and IMO should update that part.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small and Sharp This lens is small, very sharp and truly a macro.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A misnomer not worth buying! A macro lens it is not, as you are required to buy the macro ring to make it work, provided of course that you use liveview on the 240. What it is, is a slow 90 mm ( f 4) which is quite cumbersome to use unless you have a sturdy tripod, and even then the lens is not as sharp as the 75 cron. To really get macro images of good quality, the trick is to get the R to M ring with the AME 100 mm 2.8 R, either alone or with the Leica original or novoflex made bellows. In other words, don't touch that with a 10' pole!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good This is a very good , albeit expensive, lens. Am glad it came with a shade. I'm using it for close up photos of machine parts
