SKB 2015-10 Overview

The SKB iSeries Sony Video Camera Case with Wheels & Pull Handle is made of high-strength polypropylene copolymer resin and has a custom cut polyethylene foam interior for the Sony FDR-AX1, PXW-Z100, HDR-FX1000, HVR-Z5U, HDR-AX2000, HXR-NX5U, or HXR-NX3. There are also additional pre-cut sections for batteries, memory cards and a large accessory pocket that can fit an additional shotgun microphone or other accessories. Convenient wheels and a pull handle provide easy transport.

The case is resistant to corrosion and impact damage and features molded-in hinges and a snap-down molded handle with rubber grip. It has trigger release latches for quick but secure access. A complete gasket seal makes the cases watertight and submersible and an automatic value provides quick equalization when there are changes in atmospheric pressure. Loops are provided for adding an optional padlock to provide extra security.

I went back to get more dividers for another Peli case. I own 5 Pelis.... but this is my main case today, I work daily with it, giving it a real hard time. Just the very best case I own. I smashed the wheels climbing stairs bashing the wheels against them. SKB support team sent me (over to France!) free replacement. They didn't have to. I would happily have paid. Just be gentle with these wheels. They are really smoother than on the pelis, but more fragile to bashing down stairs...

When I shop for cases, I first decide if I need a case that will work as a carry on for flight or not. For this case I decided to go with something bigger than carry on requirements but not too big. To me, it's just right. It has all the features I need it to have. I actually like it better than my Pelican 1510 solely because of the handle. You can grab the handle and use your thumb to extend it up for rolling. On my Pelican, when you grab the handle to extend, you have to use your other hand to unlock it for rolling. That makes it a two hand job and I'm often trying to carry equipment in my other hand. So this case has simplified things for me.

will this case fit the hxr-nx5r by sony?

While the HXR-NX5R is not listed as compatible with this case, it is able to handle both the HXR-NX5U and HXR-NX3 which have a very similar shape to the NX5R. We believe the NX5R should fit in this case as well.

The PXW-Z100 is much larger than the PXW-X70 so yes the PXW-X70 will fit. However, it will be loose and bounce around. Recommended is the Sony SKB Hard Carrying Case for PXW-X70 Camera B&H # SOLCX70SKB which is form fitted to the PXW-X70.

Will this case fit the Fs5 comfortably?

Checking all available dimensions, we see no particular issues using this case for the FS5. You would probably wish to cut/add the foam to be more form-fitting since the camcorders it is meant for are differently shaped. In light of the fact SKB does not at this time make a case specifically for the FS5, we would suggest you consider the SKB iSeries Waterproof Case with Wheels for Blackmagic URSA Mini B&H # SK221312BKU. The BMD Mini has a similar form factor to the FS5. Since the Mini is larger, you probably will wish to add foam. Still, over all we feel this case for only a few dollars more would work better with the FS5.
