The Blimp attaches to any standard boompole with the 3/8" thread attachment at the base. Housed inside the grip is a Mogami microphone cable which splits via a junction box to a flexible thin cable inside the Blimp, to minimize the transference of vibration to the microphone.

    Rode BLIMP reviews

Blimp Windshield and Rycote Shock Mount Suspension System for Shotgun Microphones is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 45.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Audio Investment you'll make I love this thing! If you need clean audio either outside or inside you have to get this. Extra noise and wind are blocked significantly! Read the instructions first so you can see how to take it apart and put back together. If you just start turning knobs you may end up taking apart more than you need and it can be a little difficult to get the handle back on if you accidentally take it off. It's very simple once you know what does what. Think ahead of what you're going to use to hold this. The bottom threading is 3/8 so you may have to get an adapter for some stands. I wish this came with a couple adapters, they're cheap and would make this much more usable out the box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Even better than the original! I owned an original RDE Blimp with my NTG-3 shotgun. The only reason I sold it was to buy this new version. The blimp still has the same, great level of protection, but the Rycote Lyre suspension is much quieter than the elastic mount in the first version. What's even better is the differnce in weight. The version 2 design has eliminated a considerable amount of material and thus weight. I can run with this one for longer periods of time without fatigue. Adjustments are very easy to make in configuring the blimp to fit the mic and to maintain the proper aim. If you liked the first, you'll love the second!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Gear for the Price I've owned a couple of other blimps/zepplins and this has been the best bang for the buck so far. I've been swapping between my Schoeps CMIT5U and my Sennheiser MKh416. It's provided quality wind protection so far. Pros: Decent construction Sturdy Excellent wind noise reduction Cons: The tassel for the wombat occasional makes some unwanted noise during walk and talk style scenes, due to the plastic tapping the mount. (Simply bongo tied it up and solved the issue) A little on the heavy side especially when booming during long takes. (Compared to some of my other blimps) Again a great buy for the price with minimal cons.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a great product! I've had this for a few weeks now, I like the fact that you can use it without the blimp as a really nice pistol grip, I like that it is of quality build and I really like the built in mogami cable. I've used it in really strong winds, no problems with the quality of the audio. I was on the fence on the blimp for a bit because there were some reviews out there claiming that the rycote mounts were a step back from the previous generation, but I'm glad i didn't listen.Wind Noise- Excellent SuppressionHandling Noise- Excellent when handled properly, don't expect to juggle the blimp and get no noise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceedingly useful Fantastic design, looks just as awesome in reality as it does in pictures. Also highly function product. With an extension tube it can fit up to an NTG-8 and supresses everything from light air-conditioning to moderately strong wind. Shock mount system superb. Pistol grip isn't ideal for on-camera mounting, and not a fan of having to pay extra for a universal mount, but the blimp is excellent value for money, so it doesn't sting too much. Inclusion of a dead wombat was unexpected but very welcome - even had a hairbrush! Mounted it onto a micro camera for a shoot in the sand dunes and it handled wind and sand without a problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Wind Reduction The Rode Blimp provides fantastic wind reduction, I was able to record clear, intelligible audio even in high mountains with gusts of 30 to 40 mph. The Blimp is also very light for its size making it easier to use on longer boom pole for longer periods of time. The Blimp's light weight makes it much easier to use than similar more expensive models like Sennheiser's. The only problem I've had with it so far is occasionally the end caps will mis-thread when I'm screwing them back on but this is only a minor issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shock mount, Blimp and Dead Wombat. Right tools for the job. This has made such a difference in the quality of my sound recordings for my indie films. If you have ever attempted a serious recording outdoors with the slightest wind, you know how frustrating it can be to shoot a visually stunning scene, only to have it trashed by unwanted wind noise. I use a Sony MKE 600 shotgun on the Rycote shock mount, which is great for deadending vibrations. With the included Dead Wombat over the Blimp, recordings are very clean even in windy situations. I haven't tried it in a hurricane, but for outside shooting in general you will be very happy with your results using this product. It is built and designed very nicely from quality components, including a Mogami cable on the shock mount. It's one of those things you get and wonder how the hell you could live without it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cuts wind noise dramatically Used it to record spring frogs singing near local pond. The blimp plus furry cover shut down wind noise amazingly. The furry cover is tight to apply, but that means it does not make any noise flopping about. The black foam wind blocker that came with my microphone does almost nothing compared to this device.
