Senal SC-550X Overview

Designed to provide both professional and project studios a workhorse microphone that can be used in a wide variety of applications, the SC-550X Professional Cardioid Condenser Microphone from Senal boasts a wide, linear frequency response coupled with a precise transient response and high signal-to-noise ratio for accurate sound capture. It has a high SPL handling of 140 dB, and is at home not only in front of vocalists, but for tracking acoustic and electric guitars, brass, strings, pianos, and overhead drums.

Thanks to its cardioid polar pattern, the SC-550X has a generous pickup range while minimizing off-axis noise. A selectable -10 dB pad allows you to use it in front of particularly loud sources without distorting, while the selectable high-pass filter provides an on-board low-frequency roll off. A shockmount, pop filter, and case are all included.

Condenser Element
The Senal SC-550X is a studio condenser microphone with a warm, full-bodied sound, accurate transient response, and high signal-to-noise ratio
Cardioid Polar Pattern
The SC-550X's cardioid polar pattern provides excellent off-axis rejection and enables the microphone to capture detailed sound from directly in front of the capsule
High-Pass Filter
The high-pass filter helps prevent the SC-550X from picking up low-frequency noises like the rumble from an air conditioner, which can interfere with your recording
Attenuation Pad
The attenuation pad adds further adaptability to the SC-550X, lowering the output by 10 dB to prevent distortion when recording loud sounds like cymbals and electric guitar cabinets
All-Metal Construction
The microphone's rugged all-metal construction maintains an overall high standard of durability. With the included hard-shell case to store the microphone and all the included accessories, it's easy to take the SC-550X with you on the road
Flat Frequency Response
With its flat frequency response, the SC-550X delivers accurate, detailed sound reproduction designed for use in all recording environments. Capable of capturing vocals in the studio, the SC-550X also offers versatility for recording guitars, brass, strings, and piano, as well as overhead drum miking. It can also be used for nonmusical applications like podcasting, voiceovers, and broadcast use
140 dB Maximum SPL
The SC-550X's 140 dB maximum SPL optimizes the microphone to accurately capture loud signals without distorting
Shockmount
The included shock mount isolates the SC-550X to prevent it from picking up unwanted noise caused by vibrations. The universal 5/8" threaded socket is compatible with most microphone stands, and the locking knob enables vertical adjustment for customized placement
Pop Filter
The included pop filter is indispensable for recording vocals. The metal mesh screen reduces noise from aspirated plosives like p and b sounds and keeps corrosive moisture away from the capsule. Just mount the pop filter onto the rim of the shock mount and adjust it to suit your vocalist

Senal SC-550X Reviews

WHEW!!

Besides the fact that it makes my studio look a little more expensive it has a rich sound. I could only give it 4 stars because it is a little more sensitive than I would have liked but I adjust that with the -10 pad.

Very nice mic for the money

Very good sound and sensitivity. They have worked well for several weeks in a worship setting for both small group voice and instrument setups. The only concern I have is about the connection of the wind screen to the shock mount. It could be a bit more secure.

where do i connect the xlr cord?

The Senal SC-550X will require a pre amplifier and phantom power in order to operate. This can be done with a mixer or other device such as a computer interface, and will depend on your particular application.

Could I mount this on a C-stand or a light stand or do I have to buy a dedicated mic stand?
Asked by: Patrick
This Mathews c stand adaptor 252038N and the Auray thread adaptor would allow mounting of microphone to a C stand. It is not recommended to do this in a volatile environment; a mic stand is best.

I hear a very loud, persistent, high-pitched ring when I record with my laptop. Is there a way to fix that? Also, my table stand does not fit the shock mount :/
Asked by: Lily
As for the the shock mount, please double check that any smaller thread adapter inside the thread area of mount has been removed. This often can be achieved with a penny or nickel. Regarding the high pitched ring, there could be many reasons for noise issues, I do recommend calling in to our team of specialists for assistance.

I have a small production coming up where I have to record someone singing. Is than an appropriate mic for singing vocals? The talent will be listening to the music via headphones so this mic will only capture her voice.
Asked by: Patrick
For a recording application like the one you are describing, the Senal SC-550X would be a great model to consider for this application.

question

does this mic have usb?
Asked by: Anonymous
No, all it has is a regular microphone input. You'll need to plug the microphone into something else that does output to a computer. To give you an idea, I bought the Tascam UH-7000 kit (that included this mic) and used that to connect to my computer.

question

Just received this kit and found that I am unable to mount the shock mount to the mic stand. We have a standard sized mic stand but the shock mount attachment is too small. Is there a special (or different) attachment available so I can mount the shock mount and mic to the mic stand?
Asked by: Tony J.
The included shockmount features a female 3/8 to 5/8 male microphone adapter (similar to B&H# AUADCOMBOB) that allows integration with European standardized mic stands. To remove, simply locate the indentations or grooves on the outer edge of the adapter, and use a flat head screw-driver or small coin to turn an loosen; at which point the shockmount will have the correct size for your mic stand.
