    Rated 4 out of 5 by from You don't need i7if it's just about gaming Here's all you need to know. Get this if it's just about gaming and you want to overclock. Don't get it if you are rendering, video editing, or graphic intensive creative tools... You'll want the i7 for that because i5 doesn't include hyper threading which in simple terms is the only reason besides increase performance that one would choose i7 over i5. You game and you plan to over clock... Go get it. This k series is unlocked for that extra juice pushing life style and you will save more and have better value than going all out on a i7 if that is all you want or need.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent processor for variety of uses I purchased this processor for the gaming computer I recently build. I wanted an unlocked CPU to get a little future-proofing out of it. It's a solid, fast processor. Idle temps are around 30c, under intense load I've had it hit as high as 80c. I would definitely recommend an aftermarket cooler for continuous max loads (video encoding, for example), and certainly if overclocking, but the stock cooler is fine for most uses at the factory clock speed. For a brief time, my new build was without a graphics card, and I was quite impressed with the performance of the integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600, which can take 1.7GB of RAM for itself. I could have done even more with it if not for the fact that many games check for, and insist on having, dedicated VRAM.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesomeness! Runs nice and cool while it tears through any task easily and smoothly. It isn't much of an upgrade from a Sandy Bridge 2500k at the same clocks except for a few specific benchmarks (Cinebench especially). In fact, it, confusingly, seems to be slightly slower in a few things (you can't tell when using it, you can only benchmark it). So, if you have a Sandy Bridge-based CPU, you should be looking at Skylake based CPUs for upgrades. Anything older, though, or anything from AMD, then this is a winner.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Intel i5 4690k Quite a step up from the intel pentium I previously had. Install was VERY easy. Stock fan is fine for general use, but will need to upgrade cooling if you wish to overclock. Game-play wise, went from minimum graphics @40fps to Maximum graphics @60fps. Video rendering has been cut nearly in half, and photoshop has never seemed more powerful. Cannot recommend the i5 4690k enough for its price. Only downside is, its not an i7 but really the i7's are overkill at this point for most computer use.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Brain I knew what I was looking for when I went hunting for a processor in the first place so I knew that I wanted the i5 so I had the setup already in place. The price was perfect and I was wondering a lot if I wanted to wait for a few weeks and get the newest version for this the 6600 level, but everything I've heard was saying that the 4690k was perfect for what I needed because I wouldn't notice a difference in performance. The new Skylake just isn't a big enough improvement in performance.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Intel processor for most users This is a 4th-gen. processor that provides enough performance for most users and runs cool enough to use an air cooler (uses just 77W unless you overclock it, which you can). To get much more performance you must buy a chip that uses more power, runs much hotter, and likely requires water cooling. Note that the 5th-gen. processors don't provide much more. Also, this one works with DDR3 memory, which is very inexpensive right now, and reasonably priced motherboards.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing CPU for the Money It's Intel... you literally can't ask for better. The price, perfomrance and wattage of this cpu are at a pretty incredible ratio. Unless you need, and can afford, the i7-4790k or an X99 chip then I wouldn't look anywhere else for a CPU. That being said, at this point (8/11/2015) it is probably best to wait for a Skylake cpu to be available in the next few days, OR a Broadwell CPU if you only care about iGPU performance.
