Can the ballast bag be emptied for travel, or would you recommend against it?
I concur on the weight issue, as the two aspects of these bags that make them superior, in my opinion, to other bags used to weight light stand and monopods, is the weight is higher per surface area than sand bags. I do not travel with them, except in the van for shoots, and I swear by them. Great product.

would these be a good choice to sandbag a matthews merf or reverse stand? could i put it on center column?
