Designed for beginners, the Infinity 102mm Alt-Azimuth Refractor Telescope from Meade is intended to introduce viewers to astronomy by giving them a complete set up for viewing the Moon, planets, meteor showers, and brighter deep-sky objects. Its manual alt-azimuth mount has an altitude lock and slow-motion controls for precise tracking of subjects. Three eyepieces provide 23x, 66.5x, and 95x magnifications with a 2x Barlow lens that doubles the magnification of each eyepiece for a wider-range of observing possibilities.

An adjustable-height stainless steel tripod provides a stable platform for sky-watching, and the included 90° erect-image diagonal makes looking through the scope more comfortable, especially when aiming the telescope toward the zenith. The diagonal's prism corrects images horizontally and vertically, allowing the scope to be used for terrestrial viewing as well. An integrated dew-shield helps to prevent condensation on the objective lens, while blocking stray terrestrial peripheral light from interfering with celestial observations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I can't say enough good things So, when I tell you I know nothing about telescopes, planets or astronomy, basically I can tell you where the moon is. I bought this for my 7 year old son on the recommendation of a b&h salesperson in their nyc store. Setup for the most part was a breeze, pretty straight forward. I did my initial setup as recommended by Meade during the da put together the telescopey, setup and aligned the red dot. Start to finish was about 25-30 minutes. Our first night out we saw Saturn with the help of iPhone app that told us where it was. I'm 45 years old and for the first time with my own eyes I saw the rings of Saturn. Couldn't be happier with this telescope.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Telescope When I was a kid, my dad had a telescope that was hardly even usable. For a long time, I've been wanting a really good telescope, and after doing extensive research, I found this one. Hands down, this telescope is amazing. Just the other night during our meteor shower night, I placed this outside my house and looked straight up into the sky, and I was able to see what you cannot see with the naked eye. A shooting star so small, and far, I'm sure I would have never been able to see it without this telescope. I aimed at the moon, and was able to see the details of the moon's surface - something I have always dreamed of. In the end, this telescope is AMAZING and worth every dollar!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A high quality beginner's setup I'm just getting back into astronomy after several years away (primarily because I used to live in a place with lots of light pollution and moved to a place with darker skies not long ago). I wanted a reasonably priced telescope kit with an alt-azimuth mount, decent eyepieces, and large enough optics to enjoy some deep space seeing. Also, it needs to be portable and very grab and go. This fits the bill nicely. The optics are sharp and the enclosed eyepieces are pretty good - I thought I would have to upgrade the eyepieces immediately but I'm pleased with the ones that came with it. I can't imagine a better deal that combines quality, a 102mm OTA, and portability at this price. Recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic telescope for beginner I bought this telescope for my 7-year-old daughter as a birthday gift. The assembly was easy. I just spent about 30 min to set up and ready to see the stars. We were so excited to see the red color Mars, & the Saturn with the amazing ring. By the way, the purchase experience from B&H was impressive. I ordered the telescope online and it arrived my home in Hong Kong just in 3 Days!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Bang 4 the Buck! Super impressed with this telescope. Very easy and straightforward right out of the box to set up. Precision controls and a rock solid stand. It puts us to shame the Celestron AZ 70 I had before. Not just as far as specifications are concerned, but also in the overall quality of this scope. This scope is not just for the beginner, but is high enough quality for the more experienced user as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfectly Packed. Arrived on time! I got the 130mm Polaris Reflector from B&H...and now the Infinity 102mm Refractor. Both were packed very well. The reflector works just fine. Will have to wait on the refractor for now, because it is raining. Just got it put together. The free light works fine! The adapter I got here slr and digital works with my old Pentax K-1000 slr.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than I expected I purchased this refractor primarily for terrestrial viewing. I've been an amatuer astronomer for 20 years and own some large reflector scopes, but have always wanted a refractor for lunar and planetary viewing. I own Meade products and have always been satisfied with them, so I figured for the price I couldn't go wrong. The scope is typical Meade quality, easy to set up and use. The eyepieces are satisfactory for terrestrial viewing, the moon and planets, but my surprise was when I used some of my better quality eyepieces. The contrast improved and slight color aberrations disappeared. The red dot finder works very well and would be a big aid for a begining astronomer to learn with. The mount is sturdy and lightwieght. The focuser allows for a 2 inch diagonal, which I added. The 1 and 1/4 correct image diagonal that comes with it works very well. This scope is a bargain for the price and can be upgraded with better accessories. Very good on planatary objects and the moon and terrestrial viewing. Telescope tube mounts to tripod easily, good instruction manual, and easy to move around assembled. A beginner, of course, would eventually want a large aperature reflector at a much larger price, or an expensive go-to refractor for astro photography. I think they would still value this scope to grab and go, or to use for bird watching and terrestrial/ planetary and lunar viewing. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good beginners telescope easy to assemble... had fun looking outside our window look forward to a starry and planet filled night sky. Unfortunately while assembling the guide fell..and no longer works. don't know how useful it would have been either way as had difficulty aligning red dot.
