Meade 209005 overview

  • 1Description

Designed for beginners, the Infinity 90mm Alt-Azimuth Refractor Telescope from Meade is intended to introduce viewers to astronomy by giving them a complete set up for viewing the Moon, planets, meteor showers, and brighter deep-sky objects. Its manual alt-azimuth mount has an altitude lock and slow-motion controls for precise tracking of subjects. Three eyepieces provide 23x, 66.5x, and 95x magnifications with a 2x Barlow lens that doubles the magnification of each eyepiece for a wider-range of observing possibilities.

An adjustable-height stainless steel tripod provides a stable platform for sky-watching, and the included 90° erect-image diagonal makes looking through the scope more comfortable, especially when aiming the telescope toward the zenith. The diagonal's prism corrects images horizontally and vertically, allowing the scope to be used for terrestrial viewing as well. An integrated dew-shield helps to prevent condensation on the objective lens, while blocking stray terrestrial peripheral light from interfering with celestial observations.

    Meade 209005 reviews

Infinity 90mm Alt-Azimuth Refractor Telescope is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from High quality, great price I purchased this as a x-mas gift for my 8 and 10 year old kids. After days of feature / model / price shopping, I zeroed into this unit from b&h. I'm very happy I did. We just set this scope up last night (I have zero experience with telescopes) and were able to actually zoom in to a few stars (moonless night) within about 45 minutes, including setup. Spent another hour during the daytime to figure out how to use the different kit lenses and adjustment controls. For the price spent, I am really satisfied with the quality of the scope and the tripod seems sturdy enough for our purposes. Nothing feels chinzy or cheaply made - it's a real scope but isn't so intimidating to use for newbies. Kids are really excited with the scope and nobody has gotten frustrated yet. Just need to wait for the next moon so we can really start some basic solar system exploration. Haven't checked out the included software yet but will do in the future.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great beginners scope Telescope arrived quickly and as promised. I am not a serious stargazer, but the view of craters on the moon through this scope was amazing. Easy to use and the price is unbeatable, considering it comes with 3 eyepieces and a tripod. The barlow lens seems not be of great quality, the images get somewhat fuzzy. But I am not sure if another brand of barlow lens would be better or if this is in the nature of barlow lenses. Order a moon filter with the scope- you will need it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice scope for the money For the price paid, what you get is amazing. The optics of the main tube are amazingly good. The mount out of the box is a bit stiff in altitude motion and there is a little backlash on the slow motion controls, but these can easily be improved with a little WD 40 and some minor tweaks to the slo-mo mechanism. The included accessories are serviceable enough to start with, but I'll definitely be upgrading the diagonal and getting an optical finder to replace the red dot finder. Also the eyepieces (while being very good optically for 3 lens pieces) have plastic barrels which will warp over time. So I'll replace those in time also with a good set of plossels. The mount is a very solid unit, rock solid with this tube. The primary does have a bit of false color but not as bad as it could be as 90mm f/6.7 achromat. The focuser a solid 1 and 1/4 rack and pinion unit that is smooth, works well, and wasn't loaded with Chinese glue/grease like many of my past telescopes from China. When the biggest beef with a complete telescope system of less than $200, is with the accessories, you know you got your money's worth. I would recommend this to astronomers of all levels on a budget.
