    Snypex 9042-FF reviews

10x42 Infinio Focus-Free Binocular (Black) is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Free of focus, not of eye strain and value Optically these are great binoculars. When things are in focus they are sharp, good control of chromatic aberration, bright, with no distortion. But there's a huge catch. The focus-free design that you think you are getting is not as convenient as it seems. The depth of field is huge, meaning for most near-ish and most far away objects, you don't need to focus (you couldn't even if you wanted to). The problem is, to obtain optimal sharpness, your own eyes are required to focus, or finish focusing in cases where it is clear but not crisp. This is extremely tricky and requires practice. It is also very very straining on your eyes. Unless you are using these to look at things from a moderately far, unchanging distance away, you will hate every second looking through them. This is not a design flaw, rather the focus-free design itself. DO NOT GET THESE IF YOU CANNOT TOLERATE EYE STRAIN OR PLAN ON FOCUSING ON CLOSE OBJECTS. Close focusing is abysmal, and really depends on how good your own eyes are. I bought these before doing research and was intrigued by the lack of a focusing wheel, and I wanted to try them out. I returned them. If you already have a regular pair of binoculars, and need something to quickly view objects from a moderate distance away (not close), these are an excellent value and get the job done. If you want to buy these for the novelty, prepare for a 15 dollar return shipping charge. If you do not own a pair of quality binoculars, do not buy these. I am not an expert on binoculars, but just from a features and components standpoint, here is a breakdown of their quality: A 5.6 degree angle of view is average, but not bad. In my experience it was fine, and it will always be fine, but a wider angle of view would be better. That will allow you to see more in the image, giving a more immersive viewing experience, allowing you to see things more accurately the first time you point your binoculars because more is in the frame. The weatherproofing is good. I did not test this, but they are waterproof and sealed with nitrogen gas inside to prevent fogging. This is a premium feature, and extremely useful. The roof prism design makes these more compact and more durable than the porro prism design, and at this price point (as of this review, 100USD), that is quite a nice optical layout to have. In addition to this the BAK4 prisms used are excellent, as that is the best glass for that application. Fully multi-coated optics are great, and significantly improve light transmission. However, the coatings on the prisms, although good, are not the best you can find. It does not specify which coatings were used, but at this price point, they are likely either aluminum or maybe even silver coatings. The best are dielectric, and have the most reflective properties. The body is solid, and built well. I really like the bright blue branding. I also like the green color. I do not like the fit of the rubber armoring, I thought it was cheap. However, this could just be because that is how rubber armoring is suppose to be, loose, so that it can absorb shock better. I have no idea, but I personally did not like it. That being said, it is a very grippy, soft rubber, and will provide excellent protection and a tactile feel. The eye cups were annoying for me, being secure but less than I would have liked. However they have clicked stops and allow for maximum adjustment. This is very convenient. The case that comes with this is excellent, it is a nice hard case. I also liked the strap, and basically everything about the extras. They did not exude quality, but rather comfort and practicality, and that is just fine for me. In conclusion, do not buy these unless you understand what you are getting, but if you do want a focus-free binocular, these are among the best on the market, especially for the price. Snypex is also a lesser known manufacturer that produces excellent optical equipment, so it is unfortunate I am giving such a critical review. Please take note that this review reflects the issues with focus free binoculars more than it does the quality of the product. Please excuse any errors I may have made in this review, I have little experience with binoculars in general, but after purchasing this example it prompted me to do a lot of research. I hope this review helps!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not recommended The binoculars will not focus clearly. The eye adjustment does not turn the prism, only turns the plastic to move your eye further out. Thought maybe it was my eyes that were bad, but had my daughter look through them and she could not get them to clear up enough to see items clearly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the Focus Free Feature! I have never been able to successfully use conventional binoculars that need to be focused because of a vision issue in one eye. These focus free binoculars are great! No messing around with overall focus and then trying to adjust the individual lenses to compensate. We cruise a lot and I am anxious to try them out on the water. Highly recommended!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Keyword is focus free These work for distant objects however nothing will be tack sharp. Closer objects are fuzzy and distant objects are identifiable but not tack sharp like on focusing binoculars. Maybe if I let my eyes adjust longer they may focus well enough but what I am viewing will not be stationary that long. Don't see myself using these a lot.
