Lensbaby Sweet 50 Overview

The Lensbaby Sweet 50 Optic is made for use with the Composer Pro, which can be bought separately, or used interchangeably with the Sweet 50 if you own it already with a different optic. It is a selective focus lens that uses a curved field of focus optic to create a blurred effect around the focus spot.

The 50mm focal length lens has two multi-coated glass elements in one group, and an aperture range of f/2.5 to f/22. The 12-blade internal aperture is easily controlled via a ring on the front of the optic. The sharp sweet spot of focus can be moved within the frame by tilting the Composer Pro's ball-and-socket joint. The size of the sweet spot is also controlled by changing the aperture.

Lensbaby works so hard to give you contorl over focus and tilt, it's almsot a shame the Sweet 50 is so shar\p at f16. But w great lens to have in the bag when you feel like having a bit of fun.

Nice!

It's a nice lens as Lensbabies go...I give it a 4 star mainly because it does not have the build quality of the Sweet 35 and Edge 80; to be fair it costs much less, but I personally wouldn't mind paying a little more for it to be on par with those other lenses. I buy lenses for the long haul, just not sure how this one will hold up compared to the others. All that aside, it's a nice focal length addition.

decent lens for the price

I bought this to use with the composer pro effects kit. The lens is decent for use with this kit and makes the kit more versatile. I will get a lot of use out of the lens and I think it's a good starting point if you wan't to try your hand at tilt/shift photography. The glass is clear though it is certainly not the best glass as what might be found in other tilt/shift lenses from other manufacturers.

Well done

This is a nice addition to the Lensbaby swappable optics lineup and complements the Sweet 35 and Edge 80. It is nice to have aperture controls built into the lens. Quality is very good.

Great fun and love the look

I already own the Lensbaby Composer Pro with Sweet 35 and Edge 80 Optics. It took some practice and getting used to; but once I did, I had a lot of fun with these lenses and took some great portraits with them. I was excited to hear about the Sweet 50, as it's a great portrait focal length, especially for those with APS-C cameras like I have, so added it to my collection.Remember, this lens is completely manual, so you may need to dial-in the focal length and aperture into your camera's menu settings so they they are recorded in the resulting file's metadata; and/or carefully watch the manual focus and exposure cues in your viewfinder/LCD display. The key is to slow down. But get those right, and the results are some lovely, narrow sweet spot focus (depth of field) with deliciously smooth bokeh falling away from it. It's not in the same league as the far more expensive prime lenses out there: there are some amazing pieces of glass that can do this too. But tilt the Lensbaby lens around and things really get fun, with different areas/planes of focus with some diorama effects.

Artistic flare on a budget.

I think this is a great optic for a specific range. It delivers exactly what it says but you have to be an informed buyer and realize its intentions. I love it. I intend on purchasing more of the available optics for the Composer.

Quickly becoming my favorite Lensbaby

I use my Sweet 50 on a Scout body to do tabletop photography and have tried both #1 and #2 close up lenses with it for close work. Both combinations work well. I like the Sweet 35 also but the 50 gives me better separation from the b'ground. With the manual focus magnifier of my Pentax K-3 it works great.

Lens baby does not list on the Lensbaby Sweet 50 Optic for Composer Pro one way or the other if this works with an older version of the Composer Pro. If you have a Composer Pro it technically should work.
