QNAP Raid overview

  • 1Description

Designed for large data applications, such as video surveillance, data archiving, and TV broadcast storage, the REXP-1000 Pro 10-Bay SAS RAID Expansion Enclosure from QNAP will expand the storage on select QNAP NAS devices. It's ten drive bays support 3.5" SAS-2 & SATA III 6 Gb/s and SAS-1 & SATA II 3 Gb/s hard drives, as well as 2.5" SAS & SATA hard drives and SSDs. It connects to your host QNAP NAS using one mini-SAS port with a SAS-2 6 Gb/s interface, while a second mini-SAS port can be used for daisy chaining additional REXP-1000 Pro units. If your host NAS does not have a native mini-SAS port, then you'll need QNAP's SAS-12G2E expansion card and their CAB-SAS10M-8644-8088 external mini-SAS HD SFF-8644 to mini-SAS SFF-8088 cable.

QNAP's REXP-1000 Pro includes 1 x 1.6' SAS cable, 1 x power cord, 40 x flat head screws for 2.5" drives, and 40 x flat head screws for 3.5" drives. Cooling is provided by dual 120mm fans, and protection is provided by a limited 3-year warranty.

Plug-and-Play, Seamless Capacity Expansion
Simply connect to your Turbo NAS and power it on. The Turbo NAS will detect the hard drives in the REXP-1000 Pro as newly installed local drives. The Turbo NAS capacity can be expanded seamlessly by using the QTS Storage Manager.
Missing Mode Protection
When disconnection of the expansion enclosures occurs, the Turbo NAS automatically enters missing mode and blocks I/O access to protect the stored data. The system can then recover from missing mode to a normal state with data staying intact when the disconnection is resolved.
High Density, High Efficiency, and Highly Scalable
The REXP-1000 Pro supports 10 hard drives and has two SAS wide ports (in port and out port) for host connectivity and daisy-chain, respectively. Each SAS wide port combines four SAS channels (maximum 8 SAS channels supported per expansion enclosure). The solution delivers performance of up to 24 Gb/s per host connection.
QTS Storage Manager
The QTS Storage Manager neatly presents tools and options for managing system storage with an intuitive graphical user interface, which simplifies the process of NAS capacity expansion and REXP-1000 Pro management. IT administrators can easily monitor the health status of the REXP-1000 Pro and the disks within it. When cascading multiple expansion enclosures in a rack, the Locate Disk and Locate Enclosure functions assist IT administrators for quick maintenance.
Backup Solution for the Turbo NAS
In addition to expanding an existing volume, IT administrators can use the REXP-1000 Pro as a budget-friendly external storage to perform speedy and secure backup tasks for the Turbo NAS. The QNAP RTRR (Real-Time Remote Replication) or rsync service lets IT administrators back up the Turbo NAS data to the REXP-1000 Pro on a real time or scheduled basis.
Flexible Drive Selection
IT administrators can choose enterprise-level SAS HDDs with high performance and high reliability for mission critical applications, low-cost but high-capacity SATA HDDs for large data archiving, or high-speed and high stability SSDs for I/O intensive operations.

    QNAP Raid reviews

REXP-1000 Pro 10-Bay SAS RAID Expansion Enclosure is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from DON'T BUY IT. IT DOES NOT WORK. Nobody can make a raid with this popcorn maker. Even the QNAP support tried on remote and left US to build ONE BY ONE drive, after 2 days, it stops at the 3rd HDD. Trying to leave tickets for support ,, we had 2 deleted. There is no help, nowhere to go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 80TB Added Shucked 10 8TB HDDs and easily installed them into this expansion enclosure. Had to purchase the SAS expansion card and a SFF-8644 to SFF-8088 cable. All 10 drives were seen by my NAS and easily added to my storage pool. So far everything is working well. The fans on this unit seem to run more than NAS but it doesn't bother me. Setting everything up for a NAS noob like me was a little daunting at first but in the end I'm happy with the results. I'm also glad to know that if I ever want to expand again I can get up to 3 more of these to add to my NAS.
