SeaLife SL500 overview

  • 1Description

The 16GB micro HD Underwater Digital Camera from SeaLife is a compact, waterproof point-and-shoot with a depth rating of 200'. It is permanently sealed, having no watertight doors and no o-rings to maintain, and is protected by a rubber-armored, shock-resistant body. It features a 14MP, 1/2.3" CMOS image sensor for sharp, detailed photos and full HD 1080p video at 30 fps. Audio is recorded with movies both above and below the water's surface, as well.

The micro HD is also equipped with a wide-angle fisheye lens with a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 20mm, a 140°/130°/90° angle of view, and a fairly fast f/2.8 aperture, enabling you to fit a lot in-frame and capture effective low-light shots with shallow depth of field. Additionally, it is configured with 16GB of internal memory and runs on an internal lithium-ion battery.

Compose your shots on the micro HD's 2.4" color LCD monitor. The camera's large, piano key-like controls enable easy operation with or without diving gloves. Benefit from 4 underwater shooting modes with automatic color correction, as well as a land mode for above-water shooting. The camera is also capable of time-lapse shooting, enabling you to take images at set intervals to see change over time. With the Picture in Video feature, you can capture still images while recording Full HD video. Take advantage of continuous shooting at rates up to 10 fps.

Waterproofing and Durability
Features a depth rating of 200' and is permanently sealed using Perma Seal Never Leak Technology. Camera has no watertight doors and no o-rings to maintain, and is protected by a rubber-armored, shock-resistant body that safeguards it against drops from up to 3.3'. A waterproof USB port enables charging and image transfer.
14MP 1/2.3" CMOS Image Sensor
Sensor features a total of 14MP, and effective maximum image resolution is a slightly lower 13MP. Benefit from sharp still image capture and continuous shooting at up to 10 fps, as well as full HD 1080p video recording at 30 fps and HD 720p recording at 60 fps. Audio is recorded with movies both above and below the water's surface, as well. The camera has a built-in microphone located inside the waterproof enclosure. It may be turned on or off, and has been preset to the highest volume when turned on, though the recorded sound will still be minimal compared to that of a mic on a camera without a waterproof design.
Wide-Angle Lens
Equipped with a wide-angle fisheye lens with a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 20mm, a 140°/130°/90° angle of view, and a fairly fast f/2.8 aperture, enabling you to fit a lot in-frame and capture effective low-light shots with shallow depth of field.
Display
Compose your shots on the micro HD's 2.4" color LCD monitor.
Controls and Handling
The camera's three large, piano key-like controls for one-touch video recording, menu, and playback enable easy operation with or without diving gloves. There's also a shutter button for still image capture on top, of course. With the Picture in Video feature, you can capture still images while recording Full HD video. The soft rubber grip ensures a secure hold on the camera. Additionally, buoyancy is negative.
Shooting Modes
The Easy Set-up mode gives you simple menu options. Benefit from 4 underwater shooting modes with automatic color correction, as well as a land mode for above-water shooting. Snorkel mode is ideal for capturing vibrant natural colors at shallow depths, while Dive mode restores red and yellow hues that get lost due to absorption at greater depths. Ext Light mode gives you color, exposure, and picture size settings optimized for use with the optional Sea Dragon LED lights, and Dual Ext Light mode gets you set up to use two such lights. The camera is also capable of time-lapse shooting, enabling you to take images at set intervals to see change over time.
Shutter Speed
Above water, shutter speed ranges from 1 - 1/2000 sec. Underwater, it's 1/45 to 1/2000 sec.
Memory
Configured with 16GB of internal memory.
Power
Runs on an internal lithium-ion battery capable of lasting for 3.0+ hr of continuous use on a single charge. A USB adapter and cable and a wall charger with North American plug are supplied, along with a set of international plug adapters.
Operating Environment
Operating temperature is 33 to 110°F / 0.6 to 43.3°C underwater and 0 to 120°F / -17.8 to 48.9°C above water.
Mounting and Lighting
The camera is configured with a standard 1/4"-20 tripod mount. You can secure it to the optional Flex-Connect Micro Tray and connect the Flex-Connect Grip right next to it, allowing you to attach the optional Sea Dragon 2000-Lumen Photo and Video LED Dive Light. The Flex-Connect Dual Tray, which is also available separately, enables the connection of 2 Sea Dragon lights. You can even purchase the trays, handles, and lights together in optional kits. Additionally, you can purchase SeaLife's extendable AquaPod, which features a maximum height of over 50".
