Manfrotto MT190X3 overview

  • 1Description

The Manfrotto MT190X3 Aluminum Tripod is an addition to the popular 190 series, adding a Quick Power Lock System, ground level adapter, and an Easy Link attachment. It can hold up to 15.4 lb of gear, and has a maximum height of 63". The ground-level adapter replaces the center column to allow the tripod's mounting plate to sit just 3.5" above the ground with the legs at their widest angle.

The QPL system allows the three leg sections to be completely extended with one hand for simple set up. An Easy Link adapter attachment allows instant connection between tripod and accessories, such as LED lights for macro photography and DSLR video applications using Manfrotto articulated arms and brackets. Each leg can be set at four different angles to accommodate uneven ground or rough terrain.

    Manfrotto MT190X3 reviews

MT190X3 Aluminum Tripod is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 50.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gets low. When the 190X3 was included as part of a kit with the geared head I wanted, I decided to replace the pawnshop Bogen sticks I'd been using for years. From my experience with the Bogen I knew I wanted a center column that would allow me to fine-tune height without having to adjust all three legs, and flip-locks so I wouldn't have to bother with over- or under-tightening threaded leg sections. The added advantage with the 190X3 is that it can be used without the column which, combined with the lowest of the four leg angles, puts the camera inches off the ground.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointing for Horizontal Column Use For most applications, this tripod functions as expected. In fact, if you want to mount your camera inches from the ground, it functions better than expected. However, if you want to use it in the 'copystand' mode -- with the center column mounted horizontally and the camera pointing down -- you will be surprised. Rather than the column inserting sideways through the colar assembly with freedom to move in and out, it screws into the side of the collar and is therefore always at maximum excursion. It makes for an extremely unstable combination with nothing more than a mid-size DSLR and a kit zoom lens. In fact, the tapped mounting hole is visible in the images provided by the manufacturer. You will save a few bucks and get a fine tripod, but realize the trade-off that is involved.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good little set of sticks After much research and trials I settled on Manfrotto sticks. I was spoiled all these years by Gitzo sticks which would set up anywhere without a spreader from a few inches off the ground to close to six feet high with me on tiptoes. I wanted the same versatility without the tremendous weight and Manfrotto sticks were designed to deliver. The same independent leg angle clicks for crazy and challenging terrain, no need for a spreader, gets down low and up high, but all at a fraction of the weight. The only drawback is that a natural offshoot of a light frame is a lessened stability when rapidly panning or in super telephoto considering all of that for a one man band, run and gun, I recommend.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Replacing the old I purchased this tripod to replace my faithful Bogen 3046 which was stolen recently. My selection was partially based on the weight of support advertised. I use a Canon body, extra battery pack, and mostly a Canon 100-400 mm lens, and have been used to a very solid support with the older Bogen. I find the MT190 just a bit loose especially at full leg extension, and more so in windy conditions, which is common here. In order to minimize camera shake, I find myself using the hand held remote more than in the past. I do miss the sturdiness of the stolen tripod, but find this new one to be quite sufficient with a bit more aattention on my part.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent tripod I am mostly a landscape and nature photographer and the usefulness of the tripod can not be overstated. It assembles quickly and I love the independent leg logs. The ground level adapter allows me to shoot low to the ground, you will need a reducing bushel 3/8 to 1/4. It is sturdy and yet light weight and takes my Canon with a 75 - 300 lens and supports it easily. I paired this with Manfrotto 496RC2 Compact Ball Head with RC2 Quick Release and it works like a dream.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from For a good start I've had the chance to use this while shooting outdoors in the mountains. It is a tad bit on the heavy side, but overall it's definitely very sturdy. While I was shooting there were strong winds, but I had no trouble at all with any shaking or such. I'm also pretty surprised at how high this thing can go, while also being able to go so low. It'll help for more interesting shots in the future. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Manfrotto tripod...better than expected! This tripod is of excellent quality. Easy to use, easy to break down and holds it own in the wind. I wanted to buy just ONE tripod for all of my needs and this one is it!
